June 1830

"Ninette! Ninette, it's time to awaken!" A young man shouts to his sister who is late to arise for the day.

The young girl swats him away tiredly. "Begone with you, Jaque! You're ruining my dream." She turns over and snuggles more into her covers to try and fall back asleep.

"Ninette....I'll get the water bucket." Jaque warns with a devilish grin. This makes his sister turn back to him, narrowing her eyes. "You wouldn't dare."

His brow raises as a challenge in response. Ninette groans loudly and swings off her covers. Her bare feet touches the cold hard wood floor, awaking her more. She starts pushing her brother out of her bedroom. "I'm awake, now get out! I don't wish to see your face any longer!"

Jaque laughs as he is being pushed out. "Hurry up and make yourself presentable. I'll leave for market without you. I do have a job to get to." Ninette rolls her eyes and gives a final shove, placing Jaque at the other side of the door. "Yes, yes. I got it. Now, go away." She slams the door in his face and lets out a long, tired sigh.

🎶

"Alright, Ninette. You got a big day ahead. Time to get ready." She tells herself. She quickly dresses herself and opens the doors to her balcony. She steps out and places her hands on the balcony railing. Fresh air breathes through her lungs, and a warm smile fills her face. She hears little chirps which only fills her heart with more happiness. Enough to make her hum to the nature before her.

"Good morning birds, good morning trees. Oh what a lovely day. The sun's so big it burns my eye, but really that's okay." She opens up her arms embracing the sun's warmth on her skin. "A brand new day, so much to do, so what do you say? With such a wonderful start, will I find a job today?"

Ninette begins dancing around her balcony. "I've always been a morning person, a morning girl.
Hurray!"

She rushes downstairs to find her mother and father sitting at the dining table eating breakfast with her brother. Her father smiles at her. "Good morning, Ninette. Do come and eat. Your breakfast is getting cold."

Ninette sits down at the table and says a quick prayer before digging into her breakfast. She was eating so fast, she had not noticed she was attracting attention. Her mother furrowed her brows at her. "Ninette, slow down! You'll make yourself ill." Her mother warns. The young girl slows down at her mother's words and clears her throat. Her excitement no longer muted by food, she passes her joy to her family. "Mother, have you heard? Today's
my working day.
I haven't found my job just yet, but I'm hopeful anyway."

Her father and brother chuckled at the girl's enthusiasm. Her mother sighs. "For the last time, Ninette. You don't have to have a job. Your brother and father work enough to pay-"

The excited girl cut her mother off, hoping to persuade her. "I'll be such help, bringing in income. Father won't have to work so hard. I'll be able to afford to plant roses around the yard! I'm getting a job at the market today."

The aged woman sighs and looks up as her husband placed his hand on hers. "Let her grow, Diana. Ninette is seventeen. She should make that decision."

Ninette's smile widens and she jumps up kissing her father's cheek. "Thank you Papa! Come on, Jaque! We got things to do!" She says as she yanks her brother to his feet and out the door.

Ninette spent hours searching the market for employment, but has had very little luck. She crosses off another job on her list. There was only one place left. If she didn't find a job there, she will feel lost and defeated. "The Café Musain." She finds her location and looks up and the old building. Laughter and chatter bustle through the cafe windows. Ninette takes a deep breath before entering.

She is immediately welcomed with the smell of smoke and alchohol. There were people all over conversing with one another over a drink. Making her way up to the bar, she is met with a elderly woman wearing a smile. "Why, hello, dear. I'm Madame Houcheloup. What can I do for you?" She was a slender woman with short red hair. Her eyes told a story of sorrow, and yet she wore her strength.

Ninette moves a piece of hair out of her face and behind her ear. "I was hoping for employment. Anything will do! I can cook and clean."

Madame Houcheloup looks at the girl closely and nods her head in agreement. "Can you wait tables, dear?" Ninette grins and nods her head quickly in excitement, making the old woman chuckle. "When can you start?"

"Right now, but I do have to be home early tonight. It's my mother's birthday."

"Of course, dear." Madame Houcheloup leans down and pulls out a tray, handing it to the girl. "You can start over there." She says pointing to the corner on her right, near the stairs. "Easiest ones. Though if you hear loud banging, do ignore it. The boys upstairs tend to get rowdy before their meeting."

"Meeting?" Ninette's brows furrow in confusion.

"Oh, yes! Revolutionaries. Say they fight for the poor. I give them a place to meet. It's nice to see young men so passionate about a cause." With a full understanding, Ninette nods in thanks and begins her first day. Though, she can't help, but to look up the stairs, curious as to who the revolutionaries are, and what their meeting is about.
