Ninette's POV
My horse sped off towards Paris, as quick as I could make it go. It would take over a day to reach Paris. Hopefully, I make it in time.
Paris Barricades
3rd POVA lone figure approaches the barricades from the far end of the narrow street. The figure comes into lamp light. It's Valjean, a man that Gavroche knows, in a soldier's jacket. The revolutionaries level their guns. Gavroche jumps up to get a good look.
"Don't shoot!" Valjean requested with his hand up in surrender.
"Here comes a man in uniform!" Joly told Enjolras, then turns back to Valjean. "What brings you to this place?"
"I come here as a volunteer." Valjean replies.
"Approach and show your face!" Valjean steps into the light and Joly looks him over. "You wear an army uniform."
"That's why they let me through."
The revolutionaries open the slot in the barricade to let Valjean enter. Once he gets in, he is met by Enjolras. "You've got some years behind you, sir."
Valjean nods. "There's much that I can do."
Enjolras places his hand on Valjean's shoulder and motions to a man tied up in the cafe. "You see that prisoner over there? A volunteer like you!"
"A spy who calls himself Javert! He's going to get it too!" Jaque sneers in disgust as he and the men point their guns at him. Javert looks up and meets Valjean's eyes. They share a hard look.
Suddenly, Gavroche intervenes. "Don't shoot! I know him! He's no soldier!"
The men let him go. Valjean spots a couple of snipers creeping over the roofs to gain an angle of attack on them. They are aiming at Enjolras. Swiftly, Valjean grabs a gun and shoots up at them, sending them scattering. Quickly, other revolutionaries join in and
the snipers are driven back. There is a burst of gunfire from both ends of the street as a brief fire fight ensues. The snipers have disappeared.Enjolras turns to Valjean. "For your presence of mind, and for the deed you have done, I will thank you, M'sieur, when our battle is won."
Valjean shakes his head. "Give me no thanks, M'sieur. There's something you can do."
"If it is in my power." Agrees the fearless leader.
"Give me the spy Javert! Let me take care of him."
Enjolras nods in agreement and hands him a knife. "Do what you have to do. The man belongs to you." He turns to his little army. "The enemy may be regrouping! Hold yourselves in readiness!
Come, my friends, back to your
positions! The dawn is breaking fast."🎶
Enjolras sighs as he looks around at the tired and beaten revolutionaries. "Courfeyrac, you take the watch, they may attack before it's light." He gives everyone a reassuring smile. "Everybody keep the faith. For certain as our banner flies, we are not alone, the people too must rise!"
Marius is manically working to raise the height of one of the smaller barricades. Enjolras walks over to him and gently grabs his arm. "Marius, rest."
Grantaire drunkenly starts singing a drinking song. "Drink with me to days gone by!"
Jaque smiles and sings along. "Sing with me the songs we knew! Here's to pretty girls who went to our heads!"
Joly sings along. "Here's to witty girls who went to our beds!" He and Lesgle laugh and clink their bottles. "Here's to them and here's to you!"
