Chapter 16 - Going away

That afternoon I went home for some sheets when Edmond was sitting in the salon with the Morcerf kid. This might mean that he knows about the party too.

I tried to sneak away at the door, but I was unlucky. Edmond saw me.

- Angie, can you come here for a moment? - he asked.

- Yeah, sure - I replied and walked in, right next to him - So what is it?

- Ej... Are you mad at me? - he asked, loking innocently up at me.

- No, no... I'm just in a hurry, that's all - I smiled. I really wasn't mad at him, I was just stressed because of the Morcerf.

- I need to tell you that I'm going on the trip next week and I'm not gonna be home for the whole next month so I unfortunately can't go to the party either that you have probably already heard about.

- Oh, I see - I mumbled - And where are you going exactly?

- That's a bit long story so I'll tell you when you have time tonight, okay?

- Okay, that's fine - I nodded as I was about to leave when he pulled me back.

- Hey, can't I get a kiss? - he asked cheekily, yet he knew that Albert was still there, watching us quietly.

- You have a guest right here! - I snapped playfully.

- So what? Albert doesn't really mind, right? - Edmond said cheekily as he turned to Albert.

- Nope, not really - he replied - It always makes me happy to see my friends being happy.

- See? - Edmond grinned at me.

- Well, alright then - I smiled then leaned in to kiss him, but he was faster, pulled me into his lap and kissed me softly - Woah!

- Come home early tonight... - he whispered.

- Yes, Sir! - I giggled then stood up and left.

That evening I went back home and I heard piano music from the ballroom.

- It must be him... - I mumbled as I went to the room and it was Edmond - I knew it...

I walked closer and listened as he was playing and when he saw me he began to sing as well:
