Some people like to travel outside their countries. Others would rather travel to the tourist spots in their own country first before traveling abroad. Which do you prefer and why? Include specific details and examples to support your choice.

Introduction

Over the past few decades, the international tourism industry has gone through tremendous success and has thrived greatly due to various factors. Cheap air flights, for instance, have benefitted those belonging to the middle-class in traveling to international destinations cheaper than ever before. In this proposal, I shall refer to a number of sociological studies to show why – contrary to popular opinions – domestic travel should initially take precedence over international travel.

Foreign Cultures

To begin with, people's knowledge of their own countries and cultures has grown increasingly rough and hazy. This is largely due to foreign bands, television shows, and cultural objects having taken over local media and flooding it with them. For example, the Asian Cultural Society found out that Japanese teenagers knew more about American television series than 19th-century Japanese woodcrafts. It should therefore be clear that citizens are in dire need to be informed more about their very own country, and the immediate solution being visits to local cultural centers, which should occur before visits to remote countries.

Business opportunities

Secondly, people reap high economic benefits if well-accustomed to their country of birth. This is because local travel, in particular, opens up business opportunities. For example, the Korean Society for Entrepreneurship found that 40% of successful started-up companies were run by individuals who had traveled extensively in Korea and sought small openings in developmentally neglected areas. As seen in this perspective, local travel can also be of vital economic significance as well.

Conclusion

In conclusion, although some would outright argue against domestic travel, there are certain reasons why domestic travel is initially preferable. In the future, as part of the hype surrounding foreign travel dies down, these reasons will no doubt appear more attractive and conspicuous. With the implementation of the ideas shown above, domestic travel should undoubtedly thrive in the near future.
