Chp. 3: None of My Concern
"You've been hearing things and seeing things/ And so it seems I'm moving on own/ The audacity to question me/ Like you ain't leave me out here on my own..."
-Jhené AikoMy daydreams had taken over. I was no longer obsessing over Josiah nor was I doing homework. Karnise soon caught my attention with her new phone conversation. Of course, she wasn't talking to my mother anymore. Now she was talking to some boy who was inviting us to a party tonight.
"Umm, who's parents are letting them have a kickback the night of the first day of school?" I questioned, wearing a disgusted expression on my face. "We got school in the morning."
"We don't have to be there all night." Karnise clarified.
"True but still..." I sighed.
"Well, I'm down. I don't have homework for tonight." Kyler mentioned.
I smacked. Technically, I didn't have to finish my Physics or start on my English homework tonight. It wasn't due to be turned in until Friday.
"Nah, I think I'ma go home. It's already going on ten o'clock."
"OMG!" Karnise whined. "You're so frickin' boring! We would inherit heartbroken ass Kandace! I wanna meet the bitch that I used to see on IG and Snap and shit. Where that ho at? I used to look at your posts and be like 'ahhhh, my cousin in Atlanta wild'n the fuck out!' Now I'm like 'umm, excuse me, when are we gonna wild out?' You killin' me, cuz!"
Kyler shook her head at Karnise. I blushed as a few moments in particular surfaced to the forefront of my thoughts.
Karnise continued on, "Please!" She begged. "Can you go out just this once... for your favorite cousin, Rachelle? Please!"
"...Okay." I reluctantly agreed. "Let me tell Meme." I suggested. "If she says that I can't, I'm not going."
Karnise rolled her eyes. She's known to try Aunt Toi on unbelievable levels. On the other hand, Kyler pulled out her phone to inform Aunt Don. She'd much rather not have any problems with her mom or Uncle Tony.
My cousins quickly finished up the rest of their food so that we could head to Queens.
"We aren't gonna go change clothes?" I asked, not wanting to wear my school attire to a party.
"Girl, it's a house party, not a club." Karnise huffed. "Stop tryna get out of going."
I laughed, "I'm not. It was a simple question. I'm just glad we didn't leave the school with our practice clothes on."
"Should we invite Ann and Ray?" Kyler inquired.
Karnise's mood instantly changed, "I don't want them to come."
Me and Kyler looked at each other. We already knew what that meant. She was going to be a ho and didn't want her older sister and cousin fussing at her or judging her decision making. I know Karnise so at this point, I was over the fussing and judging stage. I didn't care what or who she did as long as it wasn't Gregory.
