Tays P.O.V

We crouched in the weeds beside the railroad tracks, listening to the whistle grow louder. The train slowed to a screaming halt. "Now," whispered Johnny. We ran and pulled ourselves into an open boxcar. We pressed against the side, trying to hold our breath while we listened to the railroad workers walk up and down outside. One poked his head inside, and we froze. But he didn't see us, and the boxcar rattled as the train started up.

"The first stop'll be Windrixville," Johnny said, laying the gun down gingerly. He shook his head.

"I don't see why he gave me this. I couldn't shoot anybody." Ponyboy stretched out and fell asleep his head resting against Johnny's legs. I and Johnny sat there I was engulfed in my thoughts then I remembered the book and what.

shit

I knew we had nowhere else to go, so I kept my mouth shut. "You should get some sleep," Johnny said, but I shook my head. I didn't; I couldn't go to sleep. I felt like I was going to see those bodies again. I looked at Ponyboy who was sleeping peacefully as if nothing had happened; I wondered what he was dreaming about, Probably of some land far away from reality where we weren't stuck in the middle of a murder wrap, Johnny followed my gaze.

"I just had to mess up things again" I mumbled, thinking about what life will be like in 2019 if and when I got back. Johnny cocked an eyebrow I sighed not wanting to into it.

"As I said, you should get some sleep," he said. For the rest of the time on the train in my thoughts, I pretended to sleep to get Johnny off my back, but in reality, I couldn't. I was staring at the passing scenery through the small crack in the door when I saw it "Johnny this is our stop" I said yanking the door and jumping out, Johnny broke Ponyboy out of his slumber and jumped out with him. We landed in tall weeds and damp grass. The dawn was coming. It was lightening the sky in the east, and a ray of gold touched the hills. The clouds were pink, and meadowlarks were singing.

"Blast it, Ponyboy"--- Johnny was rubbing his legs--- "you must have put my legs to sleep. I can't even stand up. I barely got off that train." I pushed myself up and went over to the guys and helped Johnny up

"This Jay mountain?" Ponyboy asked probably still half asleep; I shrugged looking around "Oh well that's useful," he said

"Go ask someone. The story won't be in the paper yet. Make like a farm boy taking a walk or something." Johnny chimed in "And Tay I dunno pretend to be his girlfriend."

"I don't look like a farm boy," Ponyboy said, it was true his long hair that was combed back with lots of grease, His slouching stride. His blue jeans, shirt, jacket and converse. I then looked at Johnny. He didn't look like any farm boy either. He reminded me of a lost puppy who had been kicked too often. He looked hard and tough, because of his black T-shirt and his blue jeans and jacket, and because his hair was heavily greased and so long. I saw how his hair curled behind his ears.

"I'll have to stay here," Johnny said, rubbing his legs. "You go down the road and ask the first person you see where Jay Mountain is." He winced at the pain in his legs. "Then come back. And for Pete's sake, run a comb through your hair and quit slouching down like a thug." Ponyboy pulled out his comb from his back pocket; I wondered why he just kept it in his back pocket.

he ran the comb through his hair "I guess I look okay now, huh, Johnny?" He was studying Pony

"You know, you look an awful lot like Sodapop, the way you've got your hair and everything. I mean, except your eyes are green."Johnny said

"K, we get it. The more time we waste, the more likely we are to get recognised" I said interrupting their lover's quarrel. Ponyboy sighed

"No. she's right. Go and pretend your going steady" Johnny said, pushing us towards the road. I grabbed his hand, he was startled at first, but then we laced our fingers together. I met a sunburned farmer driving a tractor down the road. I waved at him, and he stopped.

"Could you tell my girlfriend and I where Jay Mountain is ?" Ponyboy said making sure to put extra emphasis on the girlfriend part; I still understand the idea of me being his girlfriend but whatever

He pointed on down the road. "Follow this road to that big hill over there. That's it. Taking a walk with your broad?" I nodded

"Yessir" Ponyboy "We're playing army, and I'm supposed to report to headquarters there" Ponyboy lied pretty convincingly, the judge raised an eyebrow at me, and I knew what he was asking 'and you?'

"Oh uh," I bit my lip thinking fast for a lie "I just love him so much, and I decided to spend time with him today" god that made no sense, and then since I couldn't think of any convincing lies, so I just kissed him on the cheek. the farmer just nodded and drove off. I crack up in laughter.

"Shut up," he said, walking back to where Johnny was standing, he raised an eyebrow at us "Don't ask" Ponyboy grumbled, and we started to make our way to Jay Mountain.

Ponyboys P.O.V

(Imma use actual exerts from the book because I'm a lazy fuck)

we climbed up the road to the church, although it was a lot farther away than it looked. The way got steeper with every step. I was feeling kind of drunk--- I always do when I get too sleepy--- and my legs got heavier and heavier. I guess Johnny was more tired than I was--- he had stayed awake on the train to make sure we got off at the right place. Still, Tay had looked worse than both of us with giant bags under her eyes and paler skin than she usually, She hadn't slept at the lot and I took a guess that she probably didn't sleep on the train either. It took us about forty-five minutes to get there. We climbed in the back window. It was a small church, real old and spooky and spiderwebby. It gave me the creeps.

I'd been in church before. I used to go all the time, even after Mom and Dad were gone. Then one Sunday I talked Soda into coming with Johnny and me. He didn't want to go unless Steve did, and Two-Bit decided he might as well come too. Dally was sleeping off a hangover, and Darry was working. When Johnny and I went, we sat in the back, trying to get something out of the sermon and avoiding the people, because we weren't dressed so sharp most of the time. Nobody seemed to mind, and Johnny and I liked to go. But that day... well, Soda can't sit still long enough to enjoy a movie, much less a sermon. It wasn't long before he and Steve and Two-Bit were throwing paper wads at each other and clowning around, and finally, Steve dropped a hymn book with a bang--- accidentally, of course. Everyone in the place turned around to look at us, and Johnny and I nearly crawled under the pews. And then Two-Bit waved at them.

But this church gave me a kind of creepy feeling. What do you call it? Premonition? I flopped down on the floor--- and immediately decided not to do any more flopping. That floor was stone and hard. Johnny stretched out beside me, resting his head on his arm. I started to say something to him, but I went to sleep before I could get the words out of my mouth. But Johnny didn't notice. He was asleep, too. Tay was the last to fall asleep because she wanted to make sure we were safe before lying on a bench and drifting off.
