"Huh, well that's cheery," I said pushing my hair out of my face, I still had those horrible blonde strands at the front of my hair I moved out of the way as a bunch of teenage girls came in squealing. Sodapop rung them up; they squealed he pushed his greasy hair out of his face and gave them a small smirk, I started to think that Sodapop enjoyed the attention and probably more after that bitch Sandy left him. The girls wouldn't stop squealing and giggling, and it made me want to kill myself I groaned. they then glanced at me, probably not noticing me before because they were too focused on Soda and his looks, with a face that only said 'ew.'
"Nice wig grease, whats its made of?" they said before running out of the store and giggling like a bunch of five-year-olds.
"Your mom's chest hair!" I yelled after them. Soda laughed as I leaned back on the wooden counter, I felt his eyes on me, I looked up to see him grinning like a Cheshire cat, I bit my lip "God Soda, whats got you grinnin' like a Cheshire" I tried to mimic the way people talked in the sixties, and he raised an eyebrow.
"nice comeback" he grinned; everyone had said that Sodapop had a fantastic smile, they were right. I smiled at him, and we fell into a comfortable silence "Sooo" he said after a while "What happened in the church because I reckon there's something y'all aren't telling us,"
"Well, what did Ponyboy and Johnny tell you?" I asked, genuinely curious at what they said and how much, Sodapop shrugged.
"Well he said you got there all knocked out, johnny went to get supplies and in his exact words quote 'Johnny made the awful mistake of buying a week's worth of bologna'. Anyway, he said on the first day you found a guitar, the third day he and Johnny ate all the candy bars, fourth day he owed Johnny a hundred dollars from poker, fifth day you got halfway through gone with the wind then he said, and this is his exact quote 'on the sixth-day tay- umm I mean nothing. Nothing happened on the sixth day' and then on the seventh day you guys returned here after the fire, so what happened on the sixth day?" he asked, I bit my lip should I tell him about Ponyboy and me kissing and Johnny leaving.
"Uhh" I sighed "I um went to the store to get food because we were running out without telling them where I was and Johnny, man. He just blew up and left, and then" I bit my lip "and then the seventh day happened" I figured telling Sodapop that I kissed his brother probably would go down that well, I wasn't planning on telling anyone, I mean I'm not trying to be rude or anything. Still, i-i doesn't have a thing for Ponyboy. Yes, I did kiss him back, but I had no idea what the hell I was doing. Sodapop nodded "imma gonna go see if I can enrol in school," I said awkwardly pointing at the door and getting the fuck out of there before I could be asked any more questions. Enrolling in school was pretty simple in 1960, I just told them my name address, phone, age and then hey I'm suddenly enrolled and then hey, I'm suddenly enrolled in school and am going to start on Monday morning. That was quick I began to skate back to the Curtis' house and opened the door to find Two-bit and Johnny watching mickey mouse, and Ponyboy passed out on the couch.
"Hey Tay," two-bit said, keeping his eyes on the television as I saw Walt Disney come on the screen oh yeah I forgot he dies next year I thought.
"Taylor" Johnny acknowledged me, and I nodded in response, Two-Bit looked between Johnny and me, cocking an eyebrow,
"Don't say anything, Keith" I said in a threatening, and he turned back to mickey mouse, I sat down the armchair "Do you guys ever watch anything other than mickey, I feel like my brain is melting watching this"
