Asui let out a sigh of contentment as she looked across the vast blue sea
She had finally got her license to her very first boat
And now she was ready to explore the world On the "emerald hopper"
It wasn't a big boat and she had no crew
But it was a start
She could feel the warm wind in her hair
And a sudden bump under her boat
She was close to the shore so she thought it was just a random rock
But then she heard a large splash behind her where her food was
Putting the boat into auto-pilot she went to see if her food wasn't soaked
But what she saw brought her to a halt
In front of her was the figure of 3 things
A fish
A man
And a bird
And it was eating her apples
The bottom half of his body was something to behold
It was midnight black but every so often there would be a lighting streak of purple that seemed to light up the boats surface, even though it was still somewhat in the sea
But with a creak of the floorboard, the figure stopped and turned
Looking straight at asui herself
He let out a gasp of surprise and was about to jump back into the sea before she shouted at him to stop
"Please don't go, if you're hungry I have more apples," she said, raising her arms in a calming manor
The mermaid turned its head in confusion
Meanwhile, asui was fishing out more apples from her food barrels
she held it out towards the figure who looked at it
And after a small moment of uncertainty took it and began to eat
"So, you're an actual mermaid?" She said with awe
The figure nodded
"Do you have a name ?" She asked
He nodded again and trailed his finger on the boat's surface
Spelling out his name
"T..O..K...O..Y.A..M..I...tokoyami," she said as he finished
He nodded again with a smile
"Well tokoyami my name is asui," she said happily, grabbing an apple for herself
As they ate asui thought to herself about the events that had just happened.
But the sound of another ship brought her out of her thoughts
A bigger much fancier boat was alarming her to get out the way, but she wouldn't have time
Tokoyami noticed the boat, grabbed asui and dove into the water
The two swam under the sea,
And the small boat was smashed into million pieces
as they resurfaced they inspected the damage
Tokoyami looked at asui with sorrow, showing her he was truly sorry for her loss
"It's not your fault toko, it was that other boats for not warning us sooner, besides you saved me, if not for you I would have been seriously injured," she said happily as they reached land
Tokoyami smiles before giving out a little grunt
Asui noticed that through his rescue his tail must have snagged on something causing a deep wound
"Oh that looks bad, one sec," she said as she dove underwater and swam to where the boat crash was leaving tokoyami confused
Luckily she was able to breathe underwater and search for what she was looking for
She soon returned with a small green box
Tokoyami looked at it hesitantly
"Don't worry It's something that will help that injury" asui explained, opening the box and revealing a first aid kit
And soon she got to work
But as she finished it soon became dark
"I guess I better find a place to stay for the night," she said disappointedly
Tokoyami looked at her expectingly, waiting for what she was going to say
"I, don't want to put you in danger like today so please go home" she cried
Tokoyami looked at her shocked
She was ready to turn away before feeling a hand on her wrist
She looked at him as he shook his head
"A..su..i" he stuttered
"Yes," she asked, stunned as he headed him speak
Although it was short and stuttered it sounded deep and strong
"St..ay," he said as he pulled her to the sea
Asui looked at him with confusion
"Ple...as" He finished
Asui couldn't look away from his ruby eyes
Just like his tail, they glowed in the darkness
"Well, I guess you do need someone to keep you safe" she laughed
And with that, they both re-entered the sea
Swimming into the deep
never be seen again
