Shoji had no one to turn to

He knew this

But the tears in his eyes wouldn't stop

Within his clan "the octopus clan" he never truly belonged

Yes he had the parts of an octopus

But everything else was wrong

He had the face of a monster

And more hands than his actual tentacles

He tried to cover all this up with a cloak and mask

But everyone knew what he was underneath

A freak

When he was finally old enough to take care of himself the clan abandoned him without hesitation

They had been waiting since the day he was born

And now they were finally rid of him

Was he not good enough?

Was appearance all that mattered?

He couldn't stop the negative noises from leaving his mouth

But unknown to him

A new figure was watching the whole scene

"It's not right," the figure said

Shoji stopped in surprise

Who was this new figure

It was behind him

Shoji slowly turned around to meet a very surprising frame

It was a mermaid

But that wasn't the thing that caused him to stare

He had ahead of a surface being

a bird, he believed was what the humans called it

"mer-folk basing people on their appearances, it's not right, in fact, it was quite sickening" he continued

why wasn't he repulsed by his mutations, his flaws

"Sorry, my name is tokoyami, and what is yours?" "tokoyami" asked

shoji was taken back, he couldn't remember the last time someone was interested in him

or overall generally nice to him

"sh..shoji," he said, wiping away his tears

tokoyami came closer in a calming manner, he sat down next to him on the rock

keeping him company

being comforting

"I am sorry for what you have been through, I understand what it is like to be judged horribly only because of appearance," he said softly

shoji couldn't believe it

there was finally someone that knew what he had gone through

a person he felt like he could trust

from then on the two were inseparable

they both shared the same pain

and both were able to accept what they were

and they couldn't be happier
