Chapter 27, Into the unknown
Clary scrambled fastly to her feet, a terrified look in her bright blue eyes. However, when she stood upright, her back seemed hunched over, and when they looked closer, they saw claws adorning her fingers. Razor-sharp teeth peeked from her mouth and gleamed when the light hit them.
When Jace tried to approach her, a light growl escaped from her lips and he jumped back a little, not expecting the sound.
"Clary?" Magnus tried softly, trying not to scare her further.
He started to step closer to Clary, at a slow pace. Once Magnus was right in front of Clary, he stopped and looked at her. The group knew that Magnus undoubtedly had more experience with these kinds of situations, so they let him handle it.
Suddenly, Clary lashed out with her claws, slashing his torso. Magnus fell backward and groaned in pain while his blood dripped from Clary's talons onto the ground. Alec rushed to Magnus' side immediately and held his hand.
"Can you heal yourself?" Alec asked his husband.
Magnus groaned again and only seconds later blue mist appeared around his fingers while he tried to heal his wound. You could see through the rips of his shirt that the wound was resisting the magic.
"It doesn't work, Alec!" Magnus stressed only to groan in pain seconds later.
Alec sighed before grabbing Magnus and carrying him bridal style, walking into their bedroom.
Only seconds later, they heard a gasp. It sounded like the person couldn't get any air in their lungs. Once they realized that it was Clary who made the sound, they rushed towards her and Jace wrapped his arms around her falling form.
Jace carefully laid Clary on the black couch, stroking Clary's hair out of her face. They all noticed that the claws and canines were gone. Isabelle sighed in relief and leaned on Simon, his arms wrapping around her waist.
"Wha- what happened?" Clary groaned, holding her head in her hands.
"You uh. . . You kinda went all Wolverine on us." Simon joked, trying to lighten the tense feeling that hung in the air.
"I can't remember. Why can't I remember?" Clary panicked, eyes wide.
"I didn't hurt someone, did I?"
"Uh, well, You scratched Magnus. He can't heal himself." Jace held her hand comfortingly.
"Oh, God. I'm going to apologize, maybe I can heal him with a rune or something." Clary stood upright and went into the direction of Magnus' room.
➰
Clary silently opened the door of Alec and Magnus' bedroom and looked at Magnus apologetic. Alec looked at her and nodded, retreating from his position beside Magnus and closing the wooden sliding door when he exited.
A thick silence coated the room and it made Clary shuffle awkwardly on her feet.
"I'm sorry."
Magnus grunted a little when he moved to sit up on the bed and looked at Clary. "No need to feel guilty, I've been through far worse" Magnus dryly chuckled at his own situation.
"Still. I hurt you pretty badly."
"But. . . I might have an idea on how to heal you, considering that your magic doesn't work." Clary stepped closer to the bed.
"What are you going to do?" Magnus questioned.
"Well, most of the time, the one who inflicted the wound, also knows how to heal it. And I got a feeling on how to do that. I'm going to try it, but if you don't want to do that, I won't."
Magnus removed the black, silk sheets from his body and his torso lay bare, wounds exposed to the room temperature air. Clary took that as a sign that she could proceed, so she stepped closer to Magnus and laid her hand on his lower abdomen and chest.
He noticed that her eyes were back to the bright blue and that her claws were out, slightly digging into his torso. But, strangely enough, it did not hurt when they entered his injuries.
At last, Clary sat with her claws into Magnus' wounds, very quietly chanting in an unknown language.
The warlock looked at her questioningly but didn't say anything, afraid to disturb the trance that Clary was in.
But then, suddenly, the cuts began to stitch itself closed until the only that was left was the pale torso of Magnus, devoid of any wounds.
Clary gasped and stumbled back into the bedroom wall, her eyes back to the forest green color. Magnus jumped out of his bed and held a hand out to Clary, her taking it. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I think I just overexerted myself." She panted.
"I just have one question. What in the world am I?"
