After explaining who Isda is, the legendary group opted to go back to the Institute of New York, to further their hunt on the once-thought-innocent Isda.

They stepped out of the portal -courtesy of Magnus- and were met by the fresh night air of New York. Clary shivered slightly, although it wasn't very warm, it was still more heated than expected for April.

Raziel whistled lowly at the sight of the reconstructed Institute, clearly not having seen it in its reborn state. Isabelle shook her head at his antics and grabbed Simon's hand dragging him, and as expected, the rest to the entrance of the institute. Izzy felt guilty though, leaving the institute behind for a week without someone to properly lead it. Yes, the Clave had sent someone, but as expected, he wasn't of much value; Alec couldn't pull any strings in that department anymore.

The black-haired woman opened the heavy, dark wood door of the institute, revealing a few Shadowhunters that were determinant to finish their tasks before going to bed.

A young male Shadowhunter noticed the group entering from his position behind the holographic screen. "Ah! Inquisitor, to what do we owe the honor?" Alec frowned at the overly enthusiastic man, said male's eyes twinkling with happiness. Alec wondered if the Shadowhunter was really that daft that he didn't notice the presence of his sister.

"I am here with my sister, as you can see," the male blushed a little at his ignorance of the rest of the group, "to complete a mission of utmost importance. Now, shouldn't you be in bed at. . ." He looked at his watch; a gift from his husband. "3 o'clock in the morning?" Alec raised his pitch-black eyebrow.

The unknown male's eyes widened at the mention of the hour; he probably didn't realize it was already that late. "Uh. . . Of course, inquisitor." The man did a little bow-thingy at Alec and a nod to Isabelle before scurrying off to his bedroom.

Simon finally let loose the laugh that was threatening to burst free from his lips, clutching his stomach while he was at it. He inhaled deeply before regaining his composure, a smile still on his face.

By now, all of the other people in the room had cleared out, leaving the Shadowhunters and Downworlders still standing by the entrance. "Honestly, Alec, I didn't know it would be this funny to see you in a position of power while people try not to insult you or anything."

Alec scowls at him playfully, pretending to still be in the role of the inquisitor. "Is that supposed to mean anything, Simon?" He turned his head to look at the vampire with a brow raised.

Simon gulps fearfully, not knowing that Alec is joking, while his eyes widen. Isabelle sees the distress that her boyfriend is in and comes to his rescue by laying a hand on Alec's forearm while glaring at him.

"Was that necessary?"

"Absolutely. I'm tired, and that leaves me in a bad mood most of the time. You should've expected it, really. . . And I can't have some wuss dating my sister, can I?" Alec added playfully while smirking.

Realization crosses Izzy's eyes and she wacks her brother multiple times on the arm, probably leaving some light bruising.

Alec looked around after being smacked by his sister quite a few times, and realized that they were the only ones left in the entrance, the rest already retired to their respected rooms.

"Let's get some sleep. I don't want you to be cranky in the morning while we have to fix this problem."

That earned another whack.

***********************************************************

Sorry for the shorter chapter, guys. I didn't have much inspiration, and so I decided that a little fun wasn't overrated. Also, I'm currently swamped in schoolwork, making it that I can only write on the weekends. And I won't be going to school in May, so. . . Yay! hell for me! (note the sarcasm, please).

Stay safe!

Love to you all,

-Maite
