𝐈'𝐦 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮

"Oh my God, that was so awkward." I say with a laugh making Four do the same.

After Four managed to get the door open, we quickly left Esmer's house and made it back to mine, both of us driving in our own cars and I almost asked Four to let me drive his back but I had a feeling he would laugh in my face.

Instead of going inside, we ended up walking up and down the vineyard, the moon shining bright above us and the clear sky allowed us to see every star up there.

The sound of crickets and the water from the pool was the only noise outside, and our occasional laughter. We walk in the direction of our unused gazebo swing that opened up into a bed. It had the silk sheets and I would always come out here onto it with a book while the fresh air swayed me.

"I am sorry for that though, really." Four apologizes again making me roll my eyes as I sit and pat the empty spot next to me. "They're just idiots, all of them."

"Don't worry about it." I say with a small smile. Things get quiet for a moment and I only prayed that he didn't regret inviting and hanging out with me. "Four?"

"Yeah?" He answers, looking to me as his boot kicks the floor making us swing back and forth.

"This is probably going to make you uncomfortable, but I really have to know." I say, my heart was beating but I couldn't go a day longer not knowing. He simply nods, expecting for me to keep going. "Why do you really hang around me?"

Four looks almost taken aback by my question, maybe he expected me to ask him something else, but this has really been on my mind. I had absolutely no idea why he'd want to be around me, I'm almost certain I'm an annoying person but here he was anyways.

He shrugs. "As I said before," he removes his beanie to run his hands through his roots, only to place the beanie back. "I'm intrigued by you."

"But why?" I say, laying back down on the soft cushion as the wind picked up. Four joins shortly after, the smoke from his e-cig dispersing with the wind.

"I don't know, you're the first person I've ever met since being here that doesn't look like a snob." He replies making me scoff.

"You're friends with Jaque." I point out.

"Not so much friends." He says. "I figured being friends with you came with a package and I happen to like hanging out with you, even if I have to be around your brother." I smile at this, though I keep facing the roof of the gazebo, looking at and counting every lightbulb and fairy light.

A thin blanket of silence falls upon us, the sound of the trees swaying back and forth with the wind is the only thing audible at the moment.

I liked this. I liked being next to him just laying down, watching the night sky as the wind rocked us. I figured I also not only liked his company, but I liked him. Madi was right, it was only a matter of time until that happened.

It feels as though we've only just met but it's almost been a month of knowing him.

"I meant it by the way." I break silence making him hum in response to me. My heart racing. Hopefully I'm not taking his friendliness and kindness for something that isn't there. But I guess I won't ever know until I find out. "About wanting you kiss you."

His head turns to me, his right arm was tucked under his head and a single curl was loose on his forehead. "Good," he says. "Because I've been wanting to do the same." My heart drops, my knees felt shaky even though I was laying down and my breath hitched at the back of my throat.

I almost expected for him to lean into me, to grab my face and kiss me but he doesn't and we both stay in our spot.

"Just not now." I stay silent after this. Why not now? If not now, then when? Maybe he liked when things came unexpected. Or maybe he was waiting until I was actually 18 and it'd be legal then.

Whatever it was, I hoped that day came soon.
