Surprisingly enough, Madi didn't want to accompany me to her own cousins house. Therefore forcing me to go on my own. I was meeting Four there since he was already at her house. Weird.
I knew where it was, I've picked up my brother from there many times before. As soon as I get across the fence, I park my car behind a few other cars since the driveway was full.
When I ring the doorbell, Esmer's mom opens the door in her robe and a glass of martini on her ring covered hand. "Josephine, haven't seen you here in a while." She smiles making me hold my breath since I could practically smell the alcohol.
"Yeah, It's been a while." I say.
"They're just out back, you know where it is." She says while stepping aside for me to enter. I thank her before making my way from the living room to the kitchen until I reach the backyard.
From the glass door, I could see them gathered around the pool sitting on some beach chairs. "You made it!" I hear Esmer say making heads turn to me.
I look around, almost immediately seeing Four in a black beanie seated on a beach chair. He nods to me, silently telling me to sit next to him and I do. "I could've picked you up, you know." Four says.
I could see them playing some sort of game while they had red cups in their hands. "I've got my driver's license for a reason." I retort making Four nod while taking a sip from a red cup.
He notices me staring. "It's water." He assures.
"You look cozy." I say, motioning towards his attire. He was wearing a black long sleeve and a black beanie hiding curls though some stuck out from the sides.
"In London the weather always changed unexpectedly. It'd be a hot day and then as soon as night would hit, it'd be freezing." He says. "I'm just used to it."
I nod at this, the wind was feeling a bit chilly than usual and I'm glad I too, decided to wear a thin long sleeve, except mine was a mint color with an outline of a small white heart in the chest area.
"We're back." I hear a voice and when I look up, it's Zach and Thomas holding a case of beer in one hand each. Of course they'd be drinking.
"You're not drinking." Four says into my ear making me turn to see him looking at me. "You have to be sober around them because they'll take advantage and only embarrass you."
I nod. I wasn't planning on drinking anyway, a killer migraine in the morning isn't worth it. Not to mention the fact that I drove here. "So," Thomas says. "Twenty-one questions, who's in?" He shuffles cards in his hands.
A few girls groan and leave the group leaving only a few of us behind. "What's wrong with that?" I ask Four, seeing most girls wander off.
"It's just an excuse to ask a bunch of intrusive questions, many of those girls have slept with Thomas because of it. I'd suggest not to play when he's in charge."
"Josephine, is it?" Zach says to me making me look at him. "Congratulations, you have to answer whatever question we may have." When I look to Four, he rolls his eyes.
"Whoever draws the highest number gets to ask one question." Thomas says to me with a wink making me sigh.
"Hope you know what you got yourself into." Four says.
"I got a king." Aubrey says, putting down her cup as she turns to me with a smile. "Am I the only girl Jaque is seeing?" Why did I know she was going to ask some Jaque related question? I actually don't mind Aubrey, and Jaque seems into her. That is, I do remember him getting ready to go on a date a few nights ago with some other girl.
"Really?" Thomas rolls his eyes.
"Yes." I say, deciding to keep the information to myself. They draw again, this time Thomas gets the highest number.
"Josephine," he straightens out. "Your friend Madison, does she happen to be single?"
"Watch it." Esmer grits, looking over Zach to glare at Thomas who only puts his hands up.
"It's a fair question, she's gotta answer."
"She is, but don't get your hopes up. She wouldn't go for you, trust me." I say truthfully making everyone laugh at him.
"Well, we'll see about that." Thomas says with a smirk, placing down his card in the trash pile before they pick up another card.
"Me," Esmer smirks and looks to me. "Out of these three," She points to Zach, Thomas and Four. "Who would you make out with?" They all look at me with expectant eyes. It was weird that Esmer put Zach as an option when they're dating but I let it go.
Obviously Four. But I felt my face turn hot as I thought it. "Staying silent is not an option." Thomas says making me look at my choices before me. I didn't want them to think I had my eyes set on Four right away.
I look from Zach to Thomas and Finally Four.
"Four." I say, swallowing back the lump in my throat and I thanked God my voice didn't betray me, considering I felt so embarrassed.
Four looks at me, a small hint of a smirk on his lips but he hides it behind his cup. I look away and clear my throat as I wait for someone else to ask a question.
It's Thomas again. "Has anyone popped it yet?" He asks making Aubrey gasp but she held a taunting smile behind her hand.
"Excuse me?" I knew what he was talking about I just didn't expect it to be phrased like that, it caught me off guard.
"Don't ask her shit like that." Four defends, a look of annoyance on his face.
"Rules are rules." Thomas says. I could easily lie and say I wasn't, but what was the point in making it seem like I had sex when it was clear I haven't. Besides, everyone knows each other in our school and one persons lost virginity is everyone's business for some reason.
I gulp. "No." I say feeling my face grow hot by the second as everyone looked at each other. What was the deal with people asking if someone's a virgin in these kinds of games?
Zach and Thomas look at Four but he simply shakes his head. "Alright, I think that's enough questions." Four says, beginning to stand up but they stop him.
"I haven't gone." Zach says and stares at him while raising his eyebrows and after a while, Four lets out a breath and sits back down. Zach clears his throat. "Would you play seven minutes in heaven with Four?"
"You don't have to answer that." Four remarks.
"Yes she does, it's the last question of the game." Esmer smirks making Four glare.
All eyes were on me once again so I might as well get it over with. "Yes." I say making the girls giggle before Zach and Thomas stood up, grabbing us both and basically dragging us inside.
"What the fuck are you doing?" Four says, but he is ignored as the guys push us inside a room that was located under the stairs. They shut the door behind us and we are surrounded by darkness. "Come on, let us out!" Four bangs on the door before we hear giggles.
"We will," Thomas chuckles. "When the seven minutes are up. Get to it." And with that, we hear footsteps walk away. As Four jiggles the doorknob around, I feel around the wall and find the light switch, and soon there is light.
We were in a closet surrounded by wine bottles and other alcohols. "This is nice." I say sarcastically. Looking around the wine bottles that most were from my parents vineyard.
"I'm sorry about them, I shouldn't have asked you to come." He says as he takes out a credit card from his wallet and jiggles it around to unlock the door.
"It's fine." I say, watching as he continues to toy with the door. A few seconds later, he has it open.
"Let's get out of here." Four smirks and without another word, he grabs my hand and we walk out of the house.
