"Maybe we could do something again next weekend?" I ask my dad hopefully. Things between me and my dad are still awkward and weird, but it's better then it was when we first started talking. It's something that can only get better with time, right?
"That sounds great, I'll see you then." my dad smiles and I smile back. Yeah, things are definitely getting better.
"See you," I say as I slide out of his car.
I walk into my house, shutting the door softly behind me. I drop my bag on the ground when I hear Angel call my name.
"Yeah?" I shout back.
"Come to the kitchen!" she shouts. I roll my eyes and walk toward her voice. She's leaning against the wall next to the door to the kitchen. I stop walking when I see her. She nods to the kitchen.
"Seriously?" I ask but walk into the kitchen anyway. I expect her to follow me in, instead I her the door slam shut. That's also when I notice someone else standing there.
"I was hoping to avoid you until Monday." I tell him. I turn and try to open the door but it doesn't budge. "Angel, please open the door!"
"Look, can we please just talk?" Cody asks me, walking closer.
"Angel! Please? Just open the door!" I keep on shouting, doing my best to ignore Cody. His arms circle around my waist and he turns me so I'm facing him. With one hand he tilts my head up, my eyes meet his. I'm so shocked that I forget how to breathe.
"Stop that!" I exclaim, pushing him away. He only smirks. "Stop messing with my head!"
"Katie, I know you like Trey," he smiles softly.
"You do?"
"Yeah. I also know that he likes you, a lot," he tells me.
"Liar." I interject. He rolls his eyes at me.
"I'm not lying. You're making this difficult," he sighs. "I mean it, he like you a lot more then I like you in that way."
I stare at him, waiting until he realizes what he just said. After a moment he finally gets it.
"I didn't mean it that way! Okay I'm going to say thins in the clearest way I know how," he says, looking me right in the eyes.
"He loves you and the only way I love you is as a friend."
Well, I guess you can't get any clearer then that. But still. Trey did kiss Amber. Why would he do that if he loved me? Guys are stupid.
"I'm going to be honest. Cody, I do like you as more then a friend but it's not that strong, you know?"
"I know what you mean," he smiles, "So we're good?"
"We're good." I pull him into a hug. We pull apart and he walks toward the door.
"Just so you know," he pauses, turning around to face me, "I wasn't lying about Trey."
I take his words in. I open my mouth to say something to him but it's too late. He's already turned back around so he's facing the door.
"Angel, you can open the door now!" he shouts but the door doesn't open.
"Are you sure? She isn't forcing you to say that, right?" comes her reply from the other side of the door.
"Everything's good now, just open the door." at Cody's words, the door swings open. I follow him out of the kitchen. I stand there, watching him walk out of my house.
I hope I made the right decision.
When the door shuts, Angel's by my side in a instant. She stares at me, waiting for an explanation but I just stare back. My brain threatens to go into overdrive. It feels like I just went through a small battle, yet the bigger battle was still yet to come.
"What happened?" she asks me. I press my lips together for a moment before responding.
"We're friends." I finally say. A look of confusion crosses her face and I already know what she's going to ask next. She's just that predictable.
"Just friends? Why not more?"
"We didn't want anything more then that from each other," I explain. I always knew she liked Cody more then Trey for some reason. "It just wasn't meant to happen for us, I guess."
"So, when are you going to talk to Trey?"
"I don't know, probably Monday," I sigh, "I'm going to my room, I'll see you later."
I race to my room, only to collapse onto my bed. I can't believe everything that happened today! I'm already dreading Monday and it's only Saturday. I'm scared to talk to my best friend. That just doesn't sound right. But I guess that's what happens when you both possibly love each other and screw it up by kissing other people.
I never would have guessed that Trey liked me, of all people. I know he always flirted with me but I thought that was all a joke. I still can't believe it! Trey loves me! My fears of loosing Trey to Amber or some other girl all disappear. That won't happen. I won't let it happen.
I fall asleep with a smile spread across my face. Just thinking of Trey could do that.
I walk toward the school, five minutes before the bell is due to ring. I don't see Trey outside and my heart calms down. I push through the front doors of the school, my eyes scanning the crowd of people for Trey. I'm still not sure if I'm planning on avoiding him or actually talking to him.
The bell rings as I reach my locker. I frown. Damn, I'm going to be late. All of the students file into the classrooms, emptying the halls. Entering the combination on my lock, I throw my door open. I grab the stuff I will need before closing it again.
"I see you actually showed up today." he says from behind me. I scream, quickly covering my mouth. My eyes are wide as I turn to look at Trey. There are so many different emotions on his face. Hurt, anger, passion. Wait, passion?
"Look, I'm sorr-" I start to say but I'm cut off when he presses his lips against mine.
Our lips move together slowly at first but it quickly turns more heated. I run my hands up his chest, linking them behind his neck. His arms wrap around my waist, pulling me as close as he can to him. Our kiss deepens and I swear sparks fly.
We pull apart for air and I look at him, resisting the urge to reach up and touch my lips where I can still feel the kiss. We're still close and I want to kiss him again and again. I slowly remove my hands from around his neck but his stay at my waist. He closes his eyes briefly before speaking.
"We need to talk."
