"We need to talk."
Something about the way he said those words make me nervous. Those are breakup words. But he can't break up with me if we aren't even together, right? I nod and he takes my hand, leading me down the hallway. I pull my hand from his and a look of hurt crosses his face.
He leads me to the school auditorium and we find seats at the very top. I take a deep breath, I really don't know what to say.
"Why did you kiss me?" I blurt out.
"Don't you know?"
"I want to hear you say it." I say, watching him.
"Because I love you."
Hearing those words come out of his mouth was amazing. This is something I've been waiting to hear for so long. Tears spring to my eyes. Upon seeing the tears rolling down my cheeks, Trey's eyes widen.
"Why are you crying? Don't cry!" he says, panicking. He wipes the tears away with his thumb.
"They're happy tears, you idiot," I laugh. "I love you too!" he smiles his big goofy smile and my face mirrors it. I'm in love with my best friend and he's in love with me. Realisation hits and the smile slips from my face.
"I need to know, why did you kiss Amber?" I can hear the hurt in my own voice. He grabs one of my hands in his own, lacing them together. His eyes meet mine and I've never seen them so serious.
"I didn't. She kissed me, I swear she did. After I explained to her that it wasn't her that I liked. I promise you I didn't kiss her, you believe me, right?"
He's desperate for me to believe him, I can tell. I know he wouldn't lie to me. His blue eyes stare into mine. Not breaking the stare, he lifts my hand that's in his and presses his lips against it softly.
"Of course I believe you," I whisper, just loud enough so he could hear me.
"What about you and Cody?" he asks.
"He didn't tell you?" I ask. He shakes his head and I continue, "We talked about it and it meant nothing."
We fall into silence and I lean back in my seat. I glance at the stage, far from where we are sitting. Every few seconds I glance over at Trey, trying to figure out what he's thinking.
"I can see you looking at me." he chuckles. I look away quickly, my cheeks heating up.
"So, where does this leave us?" I ask him.
"Well, I know one thing for sure," he states, looking me.
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah," he smiles shyly, "Katie, will you be my girlfriend?"
I don't say anything. Instead I lean over and press my lips against his. He responds right away, moving his lips against mine. He moves me so I'm sitting on his lap, all without breaking the kiss. I link my arms around his neck, trying to remove all the space between us.
"I'll take that as a yes?" he smirks.
"Idiot." I giggle before kissing him again. I pull away quickly. "Damn, I love being able to do that."
"I've waited so long to be able to kiss you." he grins.
"Just how long is that?" I ask. I honestly would like to know how long he's liked me as something more then a friend.
"Since we started high school." he admits. I pull away slightly, so my eyes meet his.
"Seriously?" I can't believe it! Four years he has liked me and he never told me. "Why didn't you tell me?" I demand. He should have told me!
"Say back in grade nine, I told you I really liked you. What would you have done?" he asks, "You would have slapped me."
"I wouldn't have slapped you. I would have kneed you in the nuts for being stupid!" I correct him.
"And that's better how?" he laughs, "See? That's why I never told you. I needed to wait until the time was right."
"Wow, everything got so messed up, didn't it?"
"Yeah, it did," he agrees. "But we're together now and that's all that matters."
"Damn right it is!" I laugh, leaning into him. I kiss him again. Suddenly, the door to the auditorium is slammed open and I pull away from him. A few people walk in, obviously skipping class. I stand up, pulling Trey with me and we walk toward the door. The other students watch us, but we just ignore them.
"I should get to class," I say against my will. I would rather just stay with Trey.
"Yeah, me too."
"See ya later, Trey," I say, planting a quick kiss on his lips. I turn and walk down the hall toward my next class. I can't help but laugh as I hear him call after me.
"Later babe!"
Can life get any better?
The epilogue will be up later today. I know this was short but there wasn't much alse to write. I hope you enjoyed it!
