Gray sat quietly on the windowsill in Erza's basement, tuning out the rowdy game of poker his friends were playing.
He stared out the window, a smile painted on his face. Despite the noise, he found that he didn't mind as much as he used to.
Images of Juvia flashed through his mind, making his chest tighten.
He didn't know what was wrong with him, but ever since he began 'dating' Juvia a few months ago, he felt himself getting happier and happier by the day.
Suddenly it wasn't feeling like a burden anymore, but instead he looked forward to ever moment he got to spend by her side.
He wanted to deny it, but he had never been this happy in his life. Not since his mother died.
But alongside that happiness was a heavy guilt. The guilt of knowimg what he was suppose to do with Juvia. The fact that everything was a lie, and that he was a fraud.
The deal he had made with Jellal 5 months back was always lurking just behind him, reminding him of what he was supposed to be doing.
But he could never bring himself to. Everytime Juvia made a sexual advance, he shot her down.
Anything to delay the inevitable.
Gray was snapped out of his spiraling guilt when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked over to see Jellal, who had somehow snuck away from the chaos.
"Mind if I sit with you?" He asked, a small frown on his face.
Gray shook his head and moved his feet so Jellal could sit across from him, and then he looked back out the window at the dark neighborhood street.
"So, what's got you so happy lately?" Jellal inquired, looking out the window as well.
Gray turned to his blue haired friend, shrugging his shoulders.
"I don't know." Gray lied, but deep in his heart he knew that the reason was Juvia, making the guilt stab even deeper as it mixed with the overwhelming love he felt for his blue haired 'girlfriend.'
Jellal shook his head and smiled, rolling his eyes.
"Could it have anything to do with Juvia?" Jellal asked, and watching in amusement as Gray shifted uncomfortably.
Jellal had somehow read him like a book, and it bothered Gray to no end.
So Gray looked away and stayed quiet, not able to lie about his affections for Juvia.
Jellal let out a small laugh, kicking Gray's foot.
"I'm calling off the deal. I'm gonna tell the creep who gave me the job that I'm not doing it. So don't worry so much about it, it'll give you wrinkles."
Without another word, Jellal got down from the windowsill and snuck his way back into the game, fitting himself perfectly next to Erza.
Gray watched in amazement as Erza wrapped her arms around Jellal almost as if it were second nature, nuzzling her face into his shoulder.
Smiling now in amusement, Gray looked back at the window.
In all his years of knowing Erza, he had never believed someone could tame her the way Jellal had.
Gray felt a buzz in his pocket. He took out his phone and looked down at it, his smile growing even wider as he saw that Juvia had texted him.
'Maybe this will work out after all.' He thought.
