It had been your best friend's idea to go to the concert. You haven't seen each other for several months since you moved to New York. Now back in your little town you just wanted to make the most of the time there. You missed all that: the people you knew since you were a child, the small supermarket, the dirt roads, the country music on the radio while the wind blew your hair. You missed your friends, the ones you grew up with. New York was a huge city, but for a country girl like you the city was totally crazy. You missed the peace and the summer adventures.
You were still thinking about all that you missed when the concert started. Your best friend was very excited and you smiled. You had missed her so much.
The first to act was Cody Johnson, a singer you loved and you sang all the songs. Then Luke Bryan and Chris Young followed and your friend went crazy when she saw them because she was a huge fan of both.
And you sang and laughed all afternoon.
But what you weren't expecting was the singer who followed them on stage: Dustin Lynch.
You knew Dustin very well. You grew up together on the same dirt roads. He had been your first love. Your first kiss. Your first "dinner at your parents'." He had been everything to you.
But then Dustin started his music career and you moved to New York to study art in college and your relationship ended. You both thought it was the best decision, but only God knew how much you suffered.
Seeing him there on the stage made your heart beat so hard that you almost forgot how to breathe. You could try to deny it, but you were still hopelessly in love with Dustin. He would always be the love of your life.
And now you were there, him on the stage and you in the front row. You felt like running to the stage and hugging him to tell him that he was the greatest love of your life, without even caring that hundreds of people were attending the concert.
You loved Dustin so much...
And it was then that he saw you in the crowd. It was hard not to see you when you were in the front row so close to him. His smile changed when he saw you as if he too had forgotten to breathe.
But the concert started and Dustin sang his songs and you just listened. You just couldn't sing anymore.
"Can we go home?", you asked your friend.
You've been there for too long ... and seeing Dustin was breaking your heart.
"Are you sure?", your friend asked.
On stage the sound of guitars fell silent and people clapped.
"The next song I'm going to play belongs to my last album.", Dustin said and people were euphoric. "This is a very important album for me because it talks about my origins. The city I grew up in and the people I met."
Everyone applauded.
"I want to dedicate this next song to (Y / N).", He said and looked in your direction before speaking again. "You will always be the greatest love of my life."
