-x- Izuku Midoriya's POV -x-

Taking in a deep breath, I stood before the door. And for a moment, my stomach churned. A feeling of dread came over me, panicked thoughts racing through my mind. The thought gnawed at me that, maybe, it was just a dream. And everything would go back to how it was before.

Shaking my head, I forced myself to burst through the door, eyes squeezed shut. I sensed the familiar feeling of dozens of pairs of eyes on me, but somehow, they felt warmer. As I slowly opened my eyes, I glanced around the room, seeing the students' faces transform into ones of surprise before melting into relief.

"Hey guys," I said nervously, rubbing the back of my head. "How-"

Suddenly, I felt arms wrap around me and, looking down, I saw Uraraka squeezing me tightly. My face began rapidly heating, my voice stammering. "U-Ura-raka?" I gulped nervously.

"Never do that again," she spoke softly, burying her head into my chest. My eyes widened for a moment before I shakily raised my arms, placing them on her back.

"I... I won't..."

After a moment, I heard someone clear their throat. Looking up again, I regained my blush, seeing Aizawa raise a brow at me. "I hate to ruin the moment, but I think it's time you take your seat." And, although Aizawa had on his normal tough demeanor, I could hear that he was relieved as well.

"Alright, Sensei," I smiled.

Uraraka peeled herself away from me, and I caught her teary smile before she wiped her eyes. "I'm glad you're okay," she said before nervously walking back to her seat.

I took a last glance over the classroom, smiling. Me too.

"And this genius," Jiro rolled her eyes, gesturing towards Kaminari, "Decided that he'd take on Bakugo of all people because he wanted to 'prove his honor' or something."

"Hey!" Kaminari defended himself. "I knew it wasn't a great idea, but I told you I was trying to be a noble sacrifice! Y'know, so you guys could get to a safe area!"

"Which didn't work at all, by the way," Jiro snorted.

Kaminari pouted before turning towards Iida. "C'mon, Class Pres! Speak for me here!"

Iida raised a brow, unimpressed. "I told you we should stay as a team."

"Man," Mina cackled, "Even Iida's giving you the cold shoulder!"

Todoroki looked confused for a moment, likely thinking about something completely off topic having to do with the 'cold shoulder' comment.

Kaminari frantically turned before his eyes settled on me. "Midoriya?!"

My eyes widened and I began to rub the back of my neck nervously, an awkward smile on my face. "Oh, uh... Well I wasn't there, so..."

Kaminari dragged his hands down his face, groaning. "Why, cruel world...?"

I offered him a sheepish smile. "Sorry."

He sighed, head buried into the table. "Don't worry about it, man."

Upon hearing footsteps, I raised my head, seeing as Kirishima walked up from behind Kaminari. "Hey guys!" he greeted.

His eyes drifted towards mine, and I felt my heart fall. However, instead of giving his usual glare, he smiled.

"Hey, Midoriya." He rubbed the back of his neck, smiling sheepishly. "I'm... I'm sorry for what I said to you. I was wrong." He grinned, jabbing his thumb towards himself. "You're super manly!"

My lips parted in surprise as he spoke, but I quickly shut them before replying. "Uhm... It's okay," I awkwardly responded, offering a smile as well. "No hard feelings, right?"

"No," he sighed, "What I did was totally unmanly. Don't brush it off like it's nothing. If you hate me I totally get it."

My eyes widened and I began shaking my head rapidly, waving my hands in front of my face. "Oh, no no no! It's nothing like that. I just... I'm just not used to so much attention," I laughed nervously.

"God, Midoriya," Jiro laughed, "You're a Saint."

I blushed, and Uraraka playfully punched me in the arm. "There's nothing wrong with that, Izu." Her own eyes widened, face becoming red. "I meant Izuku! Midoriya! Whatever!" Her voice became higher in pitch as she spoke before she eventually just covered her face and stopped speaking.

Mina raised a brow, grinning. "Ohoho. Is this young love I see?"

Kirishima laughed at our reddening faces. "Well-"

"Dumb hair!" an angry voice called out, and I quickly pinpointed it to a blonde walking by - Katsuki Bakugo. "Hurry up!"

Kirishima glanced back. "One sec!" He turned around, laughing. "I guess that's my cue to leave." He put on a grin, waving. "See ya guys!"

I smiled, giving a small wave as well while the rest of the table called out their goodbyes.

After Kirishima jogged away, Mina's lips curled into a sly grin and she rested her chin on her hands, eyes locked onto Uraraka. "Did you think you'd be clear that easily?"

Uraraka blushed, pulling backwards. "It's nothing like that, okay? I'm just! Aggghhh!"

I raised a brow. "Am I missing something?"

Jiro snorted. "Guess he's clueless."

"Those are the typical attractive ones," Mina sighed, sitting back in her chair. I blushed but she didn't seem to notice. "Whatever, I'll leave you alone." She winked at Uraraka. "For now..."

Uraraka glanced down, mumbling under her breath as she fidgeted with her hands, and Todoroki stared forwards, still probably thinking about the offhand cold shoulder comment.

Breaking the awkward silence, Iida piped up. "Well I'd like to say I'm glad you're back, Midoriya. I found myself incredibly worried when I saw your battle. You acted with extreme bravery, though, and I commend you for that. I'm not sure I could ever do such a thing."

Blushing, I waved my hands in front of my face. "No, no! I'm sure you'd be just as great. Besides," I sighed, "People still got hurt."

"Oh my God," Mina groaned, punching my shoulder from across the table. "Stop beating yourself up over something so dumb."

"Yeah, I'll be the first to admit I'm kinda jealous," Kaminari added, "That was pretty cool, man. Stupid, but cool."

"Like you're one to comment about stupidity," Jiro jabbed playfully, causing Kaminari to stick his tongue out at her. "Anyways," she ignored his annoyance, "I'm pretty impressed too."

"As am I," Yaoyorozu piped up.

"Mhhm," Todoroki hummed.

"I feel like I might melt with all these compliments," I mumbled, glancing downwards.

"Well," Uraraka smiled, "You deserve them. You're a hero, Izuku."

Todoroki, breaking the moment, finally got fed up with his confusion, beginning to voice it. "None of you have an ice quirk, so how can you give anyone the cold sh-"

Mina placed her hand on his shoulder, shaking her head. "Sweetie, no."

Todoroki stared at her confused for a moment before he went back to doing whatever he was doing before.

I laughed and shook my head, a soft smile still present on my face.

A hero.

But you'll never be one.
