Chapter 16

Zerin took a deep breath as she held the ball in her hands. She threw it in the air, her hand eager. She jumped towards the ball and slammed her hand down on it, sending the topspin racing towards the opposing side and hitting the water bottle right on the mark. 

"That's one" Zerin said to herself before repeating the process, with the same result. 

"That's two" Zerin said, she prepared to serve once more, only this time with a float. 

"That's three" she said. 

"The serves you saw are paramount in professional volleyball" Zerin said to Wataru who had stars in his eyes. 

"Oh, wow, bigger sis. Can I do those serves too?" Wataru said. 

"Maybe some day, but today you will be doing an underhand serve" Zerin said. 

"Okay, I'm ready" Wataru said. 'That's what I like to hear' Zerin thought with a smile. 

"So to do an underhand serve you have to keep your legs shoulder width apart. Keep the ball in your non-dominant hand. Next you'll step forward with your leg and hit the ball with your dominant hand. So, like this" Zerin said and demonstrated. 

"Okay" Wataru said and grabbed a ball. He took a deep breath and served. Only for the ball to hit the net.

"Aww, it hit the net bigger sis" Wataru said disappointed. 

"Don't worry, keep practicing and I promise you'll get better" Zerin said. 

"Right" Wataru said and tried again. This time it went over the net and hit the ground. 

"I did it!" Wataru yelled out. 

"You sure did" Zerin said and ruffled his hair. 

"Now, I'll teach you how to receive" Zerin said. 

"You'll want to keep your hands together. You'll want to put your hands, like this. One on top of the other and then bring them together" Zerin said and showed Wataru her hands. Wataru followed suit. 

"So first off, you'll have to get in position. Knees bent, hands together" Zerin said as Wataru took his stance. 

"To receive you'll take the ball and throw it up with your hands" Zerin said and she then threw the ball at Wataru, who threw it up. 

"Nice receive" Zerin said. 

"You'll take this stance when the ball is coming in front of you. When it's above you you'll take your hands and hold them up. Make sure to keep them close enough to make contact with the ball and then throw it up" Zerin explained. 

"So like this" Wataru said and held his arms up, a bit too far apart. Zerin walked over to Wataru and brought his hands closer, leaving them a few inches apart. 

"Like this" Zerin said and walked back to where she was. Zerin threw the ball and Wataru was able to throw it upwards. 

"I did it" Wataru cheered. 

"You sure did. When you receive you'll hold the same stance but you'll be throwing it to a teammate. So why don't we practice passing the ball to each other" Zerin said.

"Kay" Wataru said. Zerin smiled and threw the ball. 

After playing with Wataru, Zerin went to talk to Subaru. The conversation she had with Natsume playing in her head. 

"Tsubaki tells me you're a pro volleyball player" Natsume said. 

"I am, the newest player for the Tokyo Blue Hearts" Zerin said.
