Jayda's POV
"This isn't a demolition notice. It's a notice of extermination." Jughead announced. He scrunched up the paper and threw it in the corner.
"We've already said our goodbye to Southside, Jughead." Toni pointed out.
"Today, it's Southside High. Tomorrow, it's the Wyrm." Jughead reasoned. "Everything that makes the Southside home, is gonna disappear. If we roll over now, it's all over."
"It's just a building, Jug." Toni stated.
"No, Toni. It's the soul of the Southside." Jughead retorted. "The Uktena fought, and died trying to protect that land. Our parents fought to keep it safe during the riots. Now it's our turn. It's our time. This is our fight. So, who's with me? Who's ready to go to war?"
-----
We helped chain each other to the steps of our old school, remembering all the days we'd walked up and down these stairs.
Then, a certain redhead skidded in front of us.
"Well, well, well, cavalry's finally here. Guess that means we got Hiram's attention." Jughead commented.
"Are you nuts? Chaining yourself to this place?" Archie argued. "They're going to tear it down in two days, dude."
"Not unless Hiram wants the blood of nine young Serpents on his hands." I scoffed. "We're not going anywhere. Go and tell your boss we said that."
Archie glared at us, before riding away on his bike.
We all eventually crashed, because standing up carrying dozens of chains on you is tiring. When I woke up, I was sandwiched between Sweet Pea and Fangs.
Soon after, Betty came to talk to Jughead, and give him warm water. I rested my head on Sweet Pea's shoulder.
"So, this is fun." I said, and looked up at him.
"Yeah, being chained to a building, and watching my girlfriend freeze beside me. So fun." He responded, sarcastically.
"I'm not that cold." I insisted. I have to admit, I was cold.
"Right." He 'agreed', nodding his head. He put his arm around me, and pulled me closer to his body. He kissed my head, and then we stayed like that for a while.
-----
Hours passed, and by the time night fell again, it was only Jughead and I still chained up. I tried to get Sweet Pea to stay, but he insisted he was too cold and starving. He also tried to get me to come with him, but I just said that I wasn't a wuss like he was. He kissed me goodbye before leaving with Fangs.
"Last man and woman standing." Dad commented, walking towards us with a bag of Pop's in his hand. "What happened to no Serpent left behind?"
"They're wusses." I answered, making Dad chuckle.
"They were claiming frostbite." Jughead shrugged. "They'll be back after some coffee and they warm up."
"Too bad. I got a dozen burgers. Guess they're all yours now." Dad said. My face lit up at the mention of burgers, and Dad immediately tossed me one. He then dropped the bag in front of Jughead.
Jug sighed, and looked up at Dad.
"Come on, it's just us. We're not going to tell anyone you broke your hunger strike." I said, before Dad could.
We sat on the ledge while eating some of the burgers out the bag. Jughead and I sat either side of Dad.
"So, uh..." Dad started. "Just like clockwork, I got a call from Hiram."
"What's he offering this time?" Jughead asked.
"You know how they're saying SoDale will mostly be low-income housing?" Dad asked. "Well, apparently, they'll be a few penthouses at the top. It would be more than enough space for all of us. Your mom, Jellybean... Just like you always wanted."
"Just imagine me, standing over that balcony and looking over a prison." Jughead began. "Right in the same spot that all my friends and I used to go to school."
Dad nodded in agreement.
"And Jellybean, growing up in a town where her best hope, or only hope, aside from getting the hell out, is to work at the prison?" Jughead continued. "It's not right."
"What'd you say to him?" I asked Dad.
"Nothing. I hung up on his ass, went to Pop's and got some burgers." Dad answered. He put his arms around both of us and pulled us closer to him. Jughead and I both grabbed another burger, and Dad laughed as we raced to see who could eat it first.
-----
The next morning, an entire crowd had gathered in front of us. Everyone was chanting "Save our school!" Even the sheriff was there.
Then, Archie came through the crowd, leading the Wrestling team, minus Kevin. They were all carrying bolt cutters, obviously to cut us down.
Jughead stepped forward, and squared up to Archie. But, before Archie could get there, Dad stepped in front of him.
"Cops may let you by, Red, but you come in here acting like a big man, and I will knock you down." Dad threatened. I stepped forward, and put my hand on his arm, pushing him away from Archie.
"Dad, don't." I said, and he looked at me. "They'll throw you in jail. Don't give them an excuse."
"I'm sorry, Jughead." Archie said. They were both facing one another now.
"Me too." Jughead nodded. "I'm not going to fight you, Archie."
"Look around. It may have taken a couple days, but now people know what Hiram's doing." I cut in. "What's happening here. This fight is not going to go away. We're not going to go away."
"So, go on." Jughead continued. "Cut us down. I want them to see you do it." He raised his hands up to Archie, signaling for him to do it.
Archie looked Jughead in the eye, before cutting the chains between his hands. The crowd starting booing, as the rest of the team began to cut us down too.
Someone cut me down next, and shoved me off the school. I managed to catch myself before I actually fell. Sweet Pea caught up with me, and took me under his arm, before we went back to his trailer.
When we arrived, we collapsed onto his couch, exhausted.
"I'm so tired." I moaned, and rested my head on his shoulder.
"We were chained to a school for three days." Sweet Pea pointed out.
"That's a lie." I stated. "You left. I was chained to a school for three days."
"Oh, shut up." He said, playfully shoving me.
"Make me." I smiled.
"Okay-" He said, cutting himself off by kissing me. He pulled me onto his lap, where we continued to make out. After a while, I broke away.
"What?" He asked me.
"I'm too tired, let's go to bed." I said, and dragged him into his room, where we collapsed and fell asleep.
