Layla sat at one of the tables at the hospital, being force by others and herself to actually work and not hang out in her mate's room— which is what she had been doing for pretty much the whole day. She grumbled, "This is the nurses' job."
She heard a low chuckle from Gabby, who was opening the moving door as she smiled at the Doctor. "You're actually doing that," she giggled, holding back a howl. "We were joking."
Layla just snarled, baring her teeth as she stood up. Her face morphed into one of anger and rage, shaking her head. "That's not funny, Gabby." She crossed her arms, tightening all the muscle in her body. Not only did she had to leave her mate, she was doing useless work instead of being with her mate.
"I'm surprise you even did what we said," Gabby snickered out, wheezing as she tried to keep her voice neutral. "You understand that you are the Head Doctor here, right?" After speaking Gabby entered deeper into the room, patting Layla on the shoulder. "You kinda did this all by yourself."
Layla rolled her eyes, shoving Gabby away, she scoffed, "I thought you were all mad at me; I can hear you guys whispering in the hallways." She pushed in her chair, cleaning the workspace she was just using. Snarling on accident, she snapped, "Can I go see my mate now?"
"She's in a medical exam— so no."
The Doctor paused, turning around as her eyes flashed. "You're telling me that another doctor is giving her a medical exam."
Gabby nodded her head, confused. "Yeah; I mean, we know she is a werewolf, but her wolf isn't like activated or something so she's technically human." The nurse turned around, making herself some coffee, "You want some?"
"Gabby," the voice growled, "that doctor is going to touch and see my mate."
The nurse turned around, facing her friend with a small smile. "I mean, you did that when you were working at the human hospital. It's the doctor's job to make sure everything is ok down below sea level." Her eyes wide as she waited for how the Doctor would respond to someone else having the face between someone else's mate and touching them. "Would it help if I say it is just a visual examination?"
She didn't get an answer, Layla was already out the door, scenting her mate's nervous scent as she paced through the hallways. She growled in her head, making it go through the link.
When she reached her mate's door, she slammed it open, making it bounce off the walls. Her eyes narrowed at the other male doctor, seeing that they were just about to start the examination.
"Doctor Layla," he spoke in a monotone, "I need someone to watch. I was about to go get my nurse." He stood up, reading himself.
Layla growled, "You are not doing the examination. I suggest you get out."
He other doctor shook his head, "Doctor Layla, I have been permitted to do this for a couple of years now. I will make sure nothing is wrong with your mate, not that that matters."
"What do you mean by that?" Gabby walked in, baring her teeth at the man.
The doctor only smiled, "Nothing mean," he laughed. He looked at Marley who was staring at Layla, who was baring her teeth at the man speaking. "It's just she's not going to get pregnant. I understand that a lot of couples go through all these examinations to find out what's wrong, but as long as she had a female mate, she definitely not getting pregnant."
"Things still could be wrong and needs to get fixed, despite her sexuality," Gabby snapped, shaking her head. "I think it would be best if Layla takes it over from here."
The doctor only rolled her eyes. "Wait till the Alpha hears about this," he stormed out, shoulder bumping both of the girls out of the way.
Layla smirked when she heard Gabby's taunting voice, "Wait till my father hears about this!" The Doctor turned to face her mate, who seemed to be zoning out through the whole situation.
"Marley," Layla whispered, waving her hand in front of her mate's face. "Hey, Baby."
Marley blinked twice before seeing Gabby and Layla. She smiled, blushing slightly. She suddenly felt very venerable sitting on the small bed wearing a gown with no back. Although she had a blanket on her lap, she felt like she was walking around naked. "He...Hello."
Layla smiled, happy that she was near her mate. "Are you ready?"
Marley gave her mate a blank stare, shaking her head. "Ready for what?"
"Medical Exam," Gabby answered, breaking up the tension. Layla glared at her, but sent a thank you to her. She needed to keep this professional, especially since her and her mate haven't even spoken about sex or even really defined their relationship and Marley's past. "We need to check your breast and v-"
Layla growled at her, "We?"
"You know that someone else had to be in the room."
"I'm scared," Market whispered, whinnying out. She reminded both woman in the room of a little puppy, making they shoot a glance at one another. "I... I don't like check-ups."
Layla frowned, grabbing her mate's hands. "Marley, Baby, I can promise you that these check-ups are not like the ones you use to get. Nobody," She cupped her mate's face, "will ever hurt you again."
Layla glanced at Gabby once Marley seemed calmed down and was ok with doing at check-up. They were definitely going to go to the Alpha and bring this up to him. Her past was going to haunt her, and Layla had no idea how she was supposed to handle that, how she was supposed to fix her mate's past, how she was supposed to help her mate not be haunted by it anymore.
