Layla watched in horror as her mate moved towards her. Her vision blurred as the world started to slow down. The bounding of her mate's feet echoed in her ears.

Marley was suicidal. Layla was sure of it.

There was nothing the Head Doctor could do when her mate collapsed in midair, her body twisting in painful directions.

Marley yelped, feeling the burning sensation as if it was the first time she shifted. Additionally, another force inside her grew. When she landed on four paws after rolling, her eyes were glowing gold. An aura shifted around her, one of dominance and power. The rouges took a deep step back, baring their teeth as they ready themselves.

The Beta snarled, he pushed himself towards the young she-wolf, refusing to bow down to a pup. He shifted in the air, without hesitation or pain.

When he landed, Marley launched herself at him. She jumped between her mate and the threat, snapping her jaw close as she raised her paws in defiance.

Marley never finished her training.

However, for her wolf, this was just her natural instincts.

For the first time in her life, Marley pulled away from the controls. Her wolf was forced to go to the surface, risking a chance of completely losing control. Her wolf was in a new area, far from home, trapped and abused.

She wasn't ready, but for her mate, for her better half, she would ruin anything she was given for Layla's safety.

Marley was surprised herself when she actually knocked the Beta over. The older wolf's feet slipping on the ground when he was knocked into. He was focused on repealing Marley's determination and dominance that he forgot to take the proper measures in defending himself.

Once again, the Beta left. His snarls echoing through the trees. The rouges followed.

Her wolf chased after them. Layla yelped, trying to get her mate's attention.

However, Marley took off. She needed this. For her mate. For her family. For her pack. For her wolf. For herself. The Beta was a monster, and this was her chance at weakening them, gaining strength, showing resistance. She was no longer the sixteen year old pup they first saw.

Not anymore. She was an eighteen year old Alpha who needed to save her pack and family along side with her mate and any help she could get.

Marley didn't give a damn about the Beta's company.

The boarder line was getting closer and closer with each step, but with each one, Marley closed in on the distance. Her eyes narrowed on the back of his feet. When she was finally in reach, she launched. Her jaw snapping around his leg, snapping the bone in a single touch.

The other rogues merely glanced back, racing past the border in a sense of false security.

The Beta yelped, face planting into the ground. The two scrambled to fight. Marley pushing her weight into the male, forcing him to remain squished into the ground. The Beta's legs  was flying around him, as he did everything he could to get back to his feet.

His back foot smashed into Marley's throat, and the young wolf whimpered as she was knocked off.

The Beta took the advantage.

He gripped her neck, forcing her to submit.

Marley would not.

Blood started to leak through her fur as the Beta applied more force. He was suddenly ripped away. Standing before Marley was Alpha Joey, and he was trained.

More importantly, this wolf attacked his pack. He was outraged.

With a broken leg, the Beta stood no chance. He was quickly knocked out. Joey sent a howl, and it seemed like each pack member knew exactly what to do. He already had wolves chasing down the other rogues. Layla was getting medical treatment as both Marley and Joey stared at each other.

*•*•*•*

Layla watched as her mate left her behind. Her wolf whining, begging for her mate to come to her senses. Her wolf was frantic, even with her pack mates nearing.

Gabby was the first person she saw. With the familiar face, she shifted back, tears in her eyes— either from the pain or from her mate. Nurse Gabby quickly come to her friend's aid, wrapping a blanket around the Doctor.

"Layla, are you alright? Where's Marley? Did they take her?" Gabby's words echoed in Layla's head.

Did they take her?

Marley was foolish to go running after them. There were more of them than her. Layla feared her mate was easily overpowered, taken away from her. Her wolf grew angry at the thought, but she personally knew her mate hadn't crossed the border yet.

There was still time.

"I," Layla mumbled, pushing off of Gabby to get up. She was gently grabbed by Eliza. "I need to get to my mate. Before. Before anything happens."

Doctor Eliza nodded her head, an expert of dealing with stressed out patients. "Alpha is with your mate right now, Layla. Marley is ok," she spoke slowly making sure Layla knew what was happening in her frantic state of mind.

"Is... is she hurt?"

Gabby helped Eliza move Layla towards the car they had speeding in their direction. "Marley is fine," the nurse answered, helping her friend into the car.

The world was moving too fast. Layla laid her head on the window, her thoughts going to her mate.

Then everything was dark.

Sorry, I need to practice writing battle scenes. Definitely not my best work. However, I'm excited what is going to come since this chapter kinda sets everything together I think.

There was a showdown between the Beta and Marley. I don't know about you, but I was waiting to write that— and maybe more of that will come. Well, we will see how the story unfolds.

Marley shifted. I imagine her with a cute, furry, fluffy butt, but that could just be me.

Any guess of what is going to happen next? I want to hear your guys' thoughts, so don't be shy!

QQ (#19): What do you think should happen to the Beta?
