The car ride was silent, nobody saying anything. Layla gripped the steering wheel in anger, knowing she needed to take things slow. She hated herself, making her own mate not want to talk to her.
Marley leaned her head against the window shield, secretly pointing out all the similarities the pack had to her old one— before the take over a couple years ago. She missed her family as she sat there, her mind hiding the truth from her. It was better that way; Marley wasn't ready for her past.
Apparently, her old pack wasn't ready for the attack.
The car slowly came to a stop, stopping at the front of a unknown house. Marley stared at her new home; it reminded her of a small cottage, but she wonder why it was so far away from everyone else.
Layla got out of the car, making her way over to her mate's side. She opened her mate's door, leaning against it as she watch as the love of her life stare at her house.
"My mother helped me designed it." Layla whispered, holding her hand out. Marley grabbed it, getting out of the car. She leaned her head on the Doctor's shoulder; Layla wrapped her hands around Marley's waist.
"It's nice," Marley whispered, nuzzling into her mate's warmth. She continued to stare, her eyes memorizing everything she could. "Do... do you live with any body else?"
Layla shook her head, "Nope. It was just me— now you." Gently, she moved Marley so she was walking. Her eyes suddenly light up with an idea and her smile grew. With on quick movement, she scooped Marley into her arms.
An unexpected Marley yelped, her arms grabbing the closet thing to hold her still as her body moved without warning. Layla chuckled as she was squeezed, wheezing, "It's just me. Just relax. I'll carry you."
Marley giggled in embarrassment, staring up at her mate as she felt her walk up the steps to the front door.
"Wait!" She shouted, making Layla stop.
"What's wrong? Are you hurt?" The Doctor asked, lowering her mate to the ground. She quickly cupped her checks, checking her face before lifting her arm. "Does that hurt?"
Marley shook her head.
Layla lifted the other arm, asking the question again getting the same answer. She quickly ran her hands down her side. "Does your sides hurt when I touch them?"
Marley shook her head again.
Layla quickly went down to her legs, bending one knee at a time. "Does you knee hurt?" She whispered, checking ankle when Marley softly said, "No."
"Marley, what's wrong?" Layla stood up, cupping her mate's check.
Marley looked at the ground. "It's just... it's been a while since I went to my parents' cabin, and this place reminds me of it." She shuffled her feet.
"Do we need to stay at a hotel?" Layla asked, pulling her towards the car.
Marley shook her head. "No! No." She stopped Layla, actually pulled her to the door. She quickly wrapped her arms around her neck, waiting for her to pick her up.
Layla laughed, throwing her head back. She planted a kiss to her mate's lips, light and soft. It made Marley gasped, but it didn't push her more than what she was comfortable with. "
She lifted Marley, feeling her mate's legs wrap around her waist. "My little baby," she mumbled, opening the door.
Marley turned around to look. "The inside is more beautiful than the outside." She pushed away from Layla, and putting her feet in the ground. She quickly walked around the living room, staring at some of the pictures on top of the fireplace.
"That when I got my diploma to be a doctor," Layla motioned to the picture Marley was staring at. "Then that's my mother, father, and I hate this fancy restaurant for some reason I couldn't remember." Layla chuckled, shaking her head. "Oh that's the Luna and I when we were graduating from high school— with a four point GPA."
Marley nodded her head, remembering her times in high school. She walked away, looking at the window to back yard, which was just the surrounding forest.
"Are you hungry?" Layla asked.
Marley turned to look at her, nodding her head. "I'm starved."
"Do you have anything in mind that you want to eat?"
Marley shook her head. "I'm fine with whatever you want." She shrugged her shoulder as Layla nodded her head and went into the kitchen. Marley followed, peaking her head around the corner as she watched.
Although Layla didn't move her head, she still could see her mate and her hair hanging by the side of her face. She smirked, quickly making them some sandwiches and deciding she was going to make a big meal tomorrow night— just for her mate.
"Do you have ham and cheese or peanut butter and jelly?"
Marley came closer inside, staring at the food Layla had out. "I don't mind. I haven't had a sandwich in a while."
Layla gulped, turning around. "If," she took a breath, "are you comfortable with, like not right now or anything, but telling me everything?"
Marley blinked, nodding her head. "It's simple, really." She shrugged, "It's not like I grew up with it. It's more like the last couple years of my life was a phase. Nothing special."
Layla shook her head. "Everything about you is special to me." She reached over, grabbing her mate's hand. She smirked, licking her lips.
