(AN: i'm not putting the whole plot line with the werewolves of it all for a reason. this story is mainly from maria's point of view and the werewolf parts are usually involving damon, stefan, caroline and tyler. but maybe it will be mentioned to maria some point soon.)

Maria's POV

I didn't get the chance to ask that guy what his name was and how he knew Katherine, or matter of fact, why he gave me a weapon that could possibly save both Elena and I's lives?

I kept the sacred stake close to me, I wasn't sure if I wanted my brothers to know about it. They usually disagreed with all my decisions, so what if I wanted to keep it to kill Niklaus and they just wanted to kill Elijah?

I arrived back home a bit later, going straight to my room and hiding the stake deep in my dresser. I knew no one would look throughout my drawers, so I thought it was a safe space for it to be kept.

I look in the mirror above my dresser and stare at myself for a second, before I hear the front door open and two voices downstairs.

I decide to make my way downstairs and spot Elena and Stefan smiling and laughing with each other.

"You two look rather happy." I comment, they both turn to look at me startled, "Oh, didn't know you were home." Stefan replied, a small smile on his face.

"Yeah, been home all day." I lie, quickly deciding not to mention the mysterious man in the grill and the deadly weapon that was in my room.

"What are your plans for the weekend?" I ask, making small talk. "Actually, we're going to my parents lake house. Just the two of us." Elena answers and I nod at her words. "That's cute."

"And what about you.. I heard you and Matt were dating, hot date planned?" Elena asks with a teasing smile and I try to grin, but seem to fail, causing the smile on Elena's face to fall as well.

"Uh yeah. That's kinda done, Damon told him this thing about Jeremy and I, Matt called off.. whatever we had." I tell them both and Stefan furrows his eyes brows, "What did Damon day?" He asks, his voice stern.

"It doesn't matter. Just some lie." I tell them with a shrug, "Damon's always been a jerk. Have you tried talking to Matt? He's a pretty understanding guy, he knows Damon isn't a good person." Elena suggests and I shrug again.

"I just- I don't know. It's kind of hurtful that he'd believe Damon in the first place, without talking to me first. Maybe we're not meant to be together." Elena frowns at my words, and Stefan looks between us, I couldn't tell what he was thinking. Maybe he was proud that his little sister and girlfriend were finally getting along.

Elena walks over to me and I brace myself, but she wraps her arms around me and holds me tightly. "You know you are a good person Maria. I'm sorry Damon ruined this for you, you deserve to be happy too." She whispers in my ear. I let myself hug her back.

I was actually starting to really like Elena, she was sweet and cared about others. I could see us being good friends, and I never really had those. I only had Katherine, it was nice to know others cared for me.

"Thank you Elena. Now go on your little trip, I'll see you guys soon." I say and she gives me a smile before walking back over to Stefan. I take that as a sign to leave and go back upstairs to my room, letting out a sigh.
