Maria's POV
"The full moon is tonight, isn't that lovely?" Klaus smirks, as he stares out the window, it was still midday, the moon wouldn't be up until a few more hours.
I sit quietly, facing him, his back was turned to me.
"By tonight, the curse will be broken."
I look over to Katherine, who remains silent. I had no idea about this curse, just a vague description from Damon.
"Why does the sun and the moon curse mean so much to you?" I question, Klaus turns to face us, finally. He lets out a deep chuckle, "Oh that's not the real curse. Elijah and I made that up so long ago.."
"What's the real curse then?" I ask, the sudden confidence overtaking me to ask all the questions I wanted. I needed answers, like why were Katherine and I still here? Why wouldn't he just kill us?
Klaus looks up to make eye contact with me, "The curse is on me, you see.. I was born a werewolf. My mother had an affair with a man in the next village over, she had no idea of his.. true self. So when I turned into a vampire, the werewolf part of me suppressed itself. Once I break the curse, I'll awaken the werewolf side and be able to be both. A vampire and werewolf. A true hybrid."
Klaus finishes his sentence with a smirk on his face, while I was trying to absorb the idea of that being possible.
"I have my witch, my werewolf, and I'm about to have my vampire. The doppelgänger will come by herself, I don't need to push her any longer. I've sent Alaric, was that his name? To deliver a message. The sacrifice will happen tonight." Klaus announces, Katherine becomes stiff.
He looks between the both of us, a grin on his face. "Now don't you two worry. You both aren't going to be in the ritual, I have the pretty blonde one. Caroline.. was it?"
I keep my mouth shut, not sure what to say.
"Tyler Lockwood is my wolf, they're both in the tomb, waiting until the moon rises."
Klaus doesn't tell us anymore after that, instead he mutters something under his breath before leaving quickly.
"Caroline, Tyler and Elena are going to die tonight." I say out loud, Katherine stays quiet, of course she wouldn't care. I assume all those lives meant nothing to her.
I heard footsteps coming up the stairs, I sat on the couch. Not bothering to face the door.
"Maria." Damon's voice echoes through the room, I stand up and face him, "What are you doing here? The ritual is tonight." I mutter out.
Damon shakes his head, "I know and I know Klaus needs a vampire, is he using you?" He asks, his voice rushed.
I shake my head, "No. He said he's using Caroline and Tyler. They're in the tomb." I tell him and he nods slightly.
"By tonight Klaus will be dead, you'll both be free to leave after that."
Hope runs through me and I let myself believe him, "Have you done what I asked?"
He nods and I let out a sigh, "You have to go. I'll see you soon, yeah?" I try to reassure him and he nods before leaving quickly.
