I could hardly breathe upon entering Queen Oxy's castle. My entire home would fit in the main ballroom with extra space to spare. The room was of intricate design with beautiful artistry and classic architecture. I could not believe I was here, dressed in my lavender gown so tight I was sure I could never sit properly; damn all corsets. Maybe if I wasn't in this awkward dress Lucinda packed me into, I would feel calmer. Being nervous was new to me, but I had yet to step foot in such a magnificent place. I found some comfort in the silver pen tucked in my bun.
And the other people.... Other lords and ladies of the highest caliber---all gathered here in this one room! The gowns of the ladies of Fayí were so beautiful, magical touches glistening in thd chandelier light. And the on lord of Fayí... so handsome with his blond---No, no. I couldn't go anywhere near them and appear so plain. What if I was mistaken for a serving maid? My mother would die of laughter if... well, she weren't already dead.
I quietly made my way over to the refrshment table, completely covered with colorful delicacies, many I'd never seen in Dusau. I found comfort in the familiarity of chocolate, and I decided to spoil my dinner with it while I could.
As I ate, I people-watched and noticed only two lords gracing the crowd with their presence. The first was clearly the aforementioned lord of Fayí, giving an impromptu magical performance for the ladies of Ashburg. The other was clear across the room, speaking quite seriously with the lady of Oplington. He looked quite familiar, the slicked hair---
It was Lord Jayce de Lons of Dusau!
I immediately turned around, minding my pen. My face turned red. If I'd known another representative of Dusau would be here, I wouldn't have accepted the invitation! Where did I get the nerve to do this? I was a low-level Lady from a decreasing family. I was the last... no presence in Dusau whatsoever. I was sure Lord de Lons didn't even know who I was.
I wondered what made him accept the invitation. He was a very compassionate man (at least, that was what my three serving maids clucked on about) and quite respectable in Dusau.
When I got the chance, I was going to ask Queen Oxy why she considered sending an invitation to a nobody like me, of a mobility fading.
I most likely wouldn't, of course. My introvertedness was often mistaken for callousness, and I knew many weren't going to like me. The queen would probably send me back.
Playing it safe, I remained a little lavender wallflower for the rest of the ball.
