Another successful night. It was four years into the circus, a year into dating. Melissa walked through the dirty tent and over to Lucas. He flew up to the top of the rafters, untying the tightropes to pack away. In two hours they'd need to be all packed up in order to head to a hotel for the evening. There was a week off before they'd visit Germany for a third time.
Melissa stared up at Lucas. His wings always captured her attention. Though the lighting was able to hide them while he was performing, she was always able to see them from her vantage point. From the moment she first saw it, she fell in love with it. Constantly shimmering no matter the light. It was another beautiful side to him.
"What are you staring at?" he called out to her as he tied up the rope and hung it on the tent's wall.
"What's the view like up there?"
"You should know. You were up here earlier," he teased.
Rolling her eyes, she watched him float down to her. The tent was empty, everyone outside waiting for the two to leave so they could pack the tent. He flew up to the top, grabbing the top with Henry, the other Moth trapeze artist. Everyone released the weights that held the tent in place, and it was folded up in the span of twenty minutes.
As the RV's and vans began to drive away, Melissa and Lucas stayed behind as they leaned against his car. "Are you excited to sleep in an actual bed tonight?"
Laughing, she said, "I think we both know you're more excited about it than I am."
"It's not like we get a lot of privacy in our trailer," he stated as he grabbed her hands and pulled her away from the car. "Can you believe it's been a whole year since I asked you out?"
"I can't believe I'm still with you at this point," she chuckled. As Lucas playfully pouted and began to pull away, she gently nudged him back into her arms. "I'm kidding. This past year has been lovely. I've loved every second of it."
"Me too."
He kissed her lips softly. She closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around his neck, feeling the air beneath her feet glide her up. She always felt dizzy when she kissed Lucas. The impalpable lust she felt for him was strong. She wished for the next hour to fly by so she could be in their hotel room and make the most of their evening.
Pulling back from the kiss, she gasped as she wrapped her arms tighter around his neck. Staring at the ground below them, she trembled when she saw how high in the sky they were, and they only continued to fly higher up. "You said you wanted to know how the view was up here."
"I didn't think it would be so terrifying."
"You get used to it after a while." Kissing her cheek, he said, "I will take you as high as you want to go, whenever you want to go. I will always be here to sweep you off your feet and take you as far away as you need for as long as you need. I will always be here for you as someone to rescue you whenever you need someone the most."
"Lucas, what are you saying?"
"I love you."
Her eyes widened, and he slowly floated down to the ground.
"I love you so much. I know we haven't had much time to be a couple with us sharing a trailer with Mikey, and how you're studying to get your Masters, and I'm working on new show ideas, but I am promising you now that I will work on being a better boyfriend. I will make sure you are taken care of. I've already bought us our own trailer for next season."
"What?" she gasped.
"And I will make sure that I spend our off season devoted to you and allowing our relationship to grow. I love you so much, Melissa. And when I say I love you, I am making this an official promise to you."
