Nikita
Samuel walked into the room, holding a child who looked to be about 6 months. I looked up at Samuel and gasped as he leaned down to press his lips to mine.
“Why so jumpy, love?” he murmured, walking over to the kitchen table. I glanced around the room.
Apparently, I was now in the kitchen. But it was different. It now had a slight feminine touch. There was a vase of roses at the table, which was now covered in a perfect white tablecloth.
Samuel set the baby in a highchair and sat next to it.
“Are you ok, Nikki?” he asked as I stayed there frozen, still looking around the room.
“I don’t know. Am I dreaming?” I whispered, jumping when someone touched my shoulder. I turned to see Hilary.
“Are you alright, Nikki?” She sat down at the table, cooed something at the child and took the plate from June.
“My lady, shall I feed Lilith for you?” June asked, pausing.
“Lilith?” I parroted, eyes widening.
“Yes…your daughter…I’m so sorry to ask but am I feeding her?” she repeated, gulping.
“Daughter?!” I shrieked, looking down at the child. It did have my eyes in a way but they were tinged with a darker blue in the very middle that slowly faded out.
“Nikki, is something wrong with you? Yes Lilith is your daughter. Yours and Sam’s. She’s nearing 6 months and she needs to be fed so I will feed her for you.” Hilary grabbed a bowl off the counter and scooted closer to Lilith, smiling when she giggled.
“Sam?” I muttered, glancing over at him.
He looked up, obviously confused.
“But…we can’t…have kids…” I trailed off at his look.
“June, call the healer. I think something is wrong with my wife. Love, why don’t you sit down and eat something?” he suggested, getting up to lead me to a chair.
“W-wife?” I looked up at him, breathe quickening slightly.
“Yes wife. For two years now. Did you hit your head?” He smoothed my hair down and sat next to me, taking my hand in his.
“I don’t know.” I leaned back in my chair, closing my eyes.
“June, healer, now.” Samuel snapped. I nearly screamed when something cried out. I looked over to see Lilith trying to get out of her seat. When Hilary picked her up, she reached out for me. Hilary exchanged a worried look with Samuel before holding Lilith out to me.
I slowly took her in my arms, looking down at her. She cooed and placed her hand on my cheek while giggling. I couldn’t help but smile. She squealed with laughter when Samuel stroked her cheek.
“I see nothing wrong with the girl.” A woman came into the room, tall and lean with black hair that reached the floor in a long braid and dark brown eyes that looked golden in the light.
“I think she’s ok now.” Sam muttered, kissing my cheek.
“Alright then. My king. My lady. Goodbye princess.” The woman waved at Lilith and turned to walk back out of the room.
“King?” I turned to Samuel with wide eyes.
He groaned.
“Sorry…love.” I said hesitantly, testing the word. He didn’t react to it. He just continued playing with Lilith’s dress.
“Do you want to put her to bed or shall I, my lady?” June asked, walking over slowly.
“I shall take care of her myself. She is my daughter.” I pointed out, standing up.
“Alright. Goodnight then, my lady, my king.” She curtsied and left, yawning.
“Um…Sam, will you help me?” I bit my lip as I glanced back at him. He smiled and led me up the stairs, placing his hand on my waist. I jumped at his casual touch but I kept walking.
We went into a room next to my father’s. It was set up as a nursery.
“Do you want me to put her to sleep?” he offered, holding out his arms. I cuddled Lilith closer to me, not wanting to let her go. “Do you want her to sleep with us?” He sighed, rolling his eyes as he ushered me back out and into my father’s room.
I jerked to a stop. It was redecorated. The old chipped wooden bed frame had been replaced by a white one. The dressers were all new. The sheets were different. I kind of liked it.
“Here, let me watch her while you go get changed.” Sam reached for Lilith as I backed away, shaking my head.
“Fine then. Good luck changing while having to deal with the little monster.” He walked over to a dresser and started going through it.
I walked into the bathroom and looked around, absentmindedly gently rocking Lilith.
“Sam!” I called. He came in, smiling triumphantly. I angrily handed over my child.
“Thank you. Get dressed.” He leaned in to give me a soft kiss before turning and leaving again.
Changed into a sleeping gown, I went back out to find Sam whispering to Lilith. I leaned against the doorway, listening.
“And from the very first day, I knew I loved your mommy. I still remember we met in the kitchen, at the table and Aunt Hilly was there and so was June. And your mommy just looked at me and I knew that I would never be able to love another. And I’ve loved her every day since.” He kissed her forehead, stroking her hair. I smiled and slowly walked over.
“As have I.” I sat next to him and leaned in to kiss him. Lilith tugged at my hair. I laughed as I took her back in my arms.
“Come on. Let’s go to sleep.” I muttered, lying back against the pillows.
Sam covered us with a giant blanket and wrapped his arm around me, pulling us closer. I rested my head on his chest, pressing a kiss to Lilith’s forehead.
“Sam. I love you.” I whispered, looking up at him.
“Love you.”
I closed my eyes and sighed happily, nestling into him with Lilith cuddled to my chest.
I gasped as I opened my eyes. It can’t have been a dream. Maybe it was a vision. But that made even less sense.
“You’re awake.” a voice laughed, sending the sound echoing.
I turned to see Ryker sitting in a chair by my bed with a book in his hands.
“How long have I been sleeping?” I asked, sitting up.
“Mm, four days. I’m going to go get Hilary.” He stood up and started for the door.
“Wait! Where’s Sam…uel?” I asked, remembering I wasn’t as close to this Samuel as dream Sam.
“Um, I will get him for you too. He’s outside. Guarding…something.” Ryker ran out of the room.
I stood up and followed him.
I hid until Hilary went up the stairs then trailed behind Ryker until he found Samuel. Then I ducked behind a tree and peeked out.
“Sleeping beauty has awoken.” Ryker smiled and patted Samuel’s shoulder.
“Ok. Let me go tell Rog and I will go home. One second.” Samuel turned and walked over to a man on a horse.
I gasped as something covered my mouth, dragging me back into the forest. My screams were muffled by a hand. I reached back, trying to get loose.
“Stop screaming.” whoever it was hissed into my ear. I froze at the voice.
Nathaniel.
