We waited by the door of the tent, looking out into the fire. I heard a sob and turned, peeking into the tent. Nikita sat curled up next to Samuel, who lay frozen.

“Healers. Get the healers now.” I pushed at Eric and went into the tent, puling Nikita away from Samuel.

“What are you doing?! Get away from me!” she shrieked as the healers raced in.

I held her against my chest while she screamed at them to help him. I turned her away, squeezing my eyes shut. She finally fell slack, letting her head drop. After a few minutes of the healers trying to get Samuel to awaken, she straightened up, holding her chin high. Her eyes went white just before they shut and her entire body gave a quick shudder.

I heard coughing and glanced over my shoulder to see Samuel propped up on his elbows as all the healers sat there in shock.

“Samuel.” I ran over to him, gasping when he fully sat up.

I glanced at Nikita, finding her in the same position, eyes still closed.

I slowly looked back to Samuel, hugging him gently. When I pulled back, I cut the bandages off, ignoring the healers protesting. The wound was gone, nothing but a small blood stain left. Nikita sighed as she walked over to hug him.

“We should leave. Now.”

Samuel

“Goodbye Nikki. Good luck with the you-know-whats. Nice meeting you all. Take care of her. If she gets harmed, I will personally rip your heart out of your chest. Have a nice trip.” Eric shut the door after kissing Nikita’s cheek.

We started riding shortly after, going for a few miles before stopping to rest.

“It is getting dark. We should make camp.” I suggested, looking up at the stars.

“Of course. My lady.” A guard helped Nikita off her horse, setting her down gently. They set up the tents quickly as I tied the horses.

“Samuel, will you stay with me? I do not wish to be alone.” Nikita whispered, stroking Leara.

I followed her into the larger tent, placing the lantern in the corner as she sat down on her blankets and pillows that represented a bed. “Samuel, earlier today, you needed to tell me something. Something about love I think.” She ran her fingers through her hair, unaware of me going rigid.

“Uh, yes. I believe I wanted you to tell my family I loved them.” I lied, sitting next to her.

“Oh, that was sweet. I am very glad that you did not…die.”

“Me too. Come on now. You have had a very rough and long day. Get some sleep.” I ordered, managing a shaky smile.

Soon, she had fallen asleep while I remained awake. I looked up at the shadows from the lantern and jumped when she turned and buried her face in my neck, moaning. I chuckled as I wrapped my arms around her.

 “I love you.”
