Hilary's POV
I quietly knocked on the door, hoping not to wake anyone else up. It was currently the middle of the night and everyone was asleep. It was time for the plan to start.
I opened the door and froze at the sight before me. There were five little creatures all around Nikki. Then I blinked and they were gone. It must have been in my head. I must be more tired than I thought.
“Nikki?” I whispered, lightly shaking her shoulder.
She moaned and murmured Samuel’s name before her eyes fluttered open.
“Unfortunately, I am not your guard, but I think I will do for tonight.” I teased, watching a rosy tint spread across her cheeks.
“Hilly, what are you doing here?” She sent a panicked glance around the room and then visibly calmed down, sighing loudly.
You can do this, Hilary. Just do it. “Samuel left. He said he’s going back to the castle.” I lied, grimacing as I saw her pout.
“No he didn’t. He would have told me.”
“He said he didn’t want to tell you because he feared your reaction.”
“Well then why can I hear his heartbeat?”
“He has not gotten too far.” Come on, Nikki. Drop it and get on your horse already.
“I don’t believe you. You just want to me to go back to the castle. Really, Hilary? Lying to me? Have you truly sunk that low?”
“I’m sorry, Nikki. I just want my family back.”
“Our family was broken the day mother died.”
“Do not bring mother into this! You are selfish, Nikita and I will not tolerate it anymore!” I yelled, pushing aside the fact that everyone was sleeping.
“I am selfish? You are the one trying to take me back to somewhere I hate and fear with all my heart simply so you will not have to marry someone!” she shouted back, standing up.
“That is not true. I want you to return so my family can be somewhat whole again. We are nothing without you, Nikki. We need you back home.” My voice broke as tears started pouring down.
“Well I do not need you. Call me selfish but you will also be able to call me happy. I think you should leave, Hilly. I am tired and not in the mood to deal with you.”
I let out a sob as I left, pushing past Samuel and Ryker and running to my room.
“You should not have moved in so quickly. I told you to wait until tomorrow!” Ryker scolded, following me and shutting the door behind us.
“I need to be back in a week. I do not have time to wait.”
“I could have had Samuel out of the house. She would not have caught on so quickly and we could all be back at the castle. Next time, I suggest you listen to me.” He turned and left, slamming the door loudly.
I jumped at the noise and continued crying into my pillow. I cried myself to sleep.
