Nikita's POV
A slight pang of guilt rushed through me as I sat up in the morning, awoken by my dragons’ hungry cries. I shushed them, clamping my hand over one of their mouths.
Last night was anything but innocent at my end. I knew what I was doing. I hoped that if I could get Samuel to kiss me or fall in love with me, he would forget about her.
I slowly detangled myself from him, tensing up when he moaned and rolled over, mumbling. He stayed asleep though.
I let out a sigh of relief and started for the door until I realized I was still in my night clothes. I glanced back at Samuel then down to my dress, which now seemed to reveal a lot more than it did last night.
I carefully slid the arms down, all while watching him and compelling him to stay asleep.
I had just started to slip my arms into the new dress’s sleeves when I heard him wake up. I quickly finished and spun around to see him sitting up and rubbing his eyes.
“Good morning, princess. Is something wrong?”
“Wrong? No. Not at all. Why do you ask?”
“You are blushing and you look terrified.”
“Well…um…why are you asking me these questions?”
“I was simply asking, my lady. You do not have to answer.” He smirked and stood up, heading to the door.
I stuttered for a few seconds before following him out.
We ate breakfast rather quickly and then Leia revealed she would be training me today.
“Training? What kind of training?” Samuel asked, grimacing.
“I will not hurt her, Samuel. Stop your worries.”
An hour later, she had led us to a large clearing. The dragons all huddled around Samuel in fear as he sat down to watch.
“They will get used to it, my lady. Now, normally we would do this before the eggs hatched but you are a special case. You also have a Power I have never seen before. It is pure and by far the strongest magic I have ever seen.” Leia eyed me in a weird way that sent shudders up and down my spine.
“As you said, I am a special case. Now, may we please get on with the training?”
“Yes, of course. First, we will channel Air. All Dragos can control the elements, some stronger than others. You will be strongest in Fire, as you have two fire dragons. Air will be difficult but you should be able to use it. Do you see that rock? I want you to focus on it with all of your mind, energy and spirit and tell it to lift up.”
I rolled my eyes impatiently but obeyed, making the rock levitate until she nodded.
“You make it seem like child’s play. Fine then. We will just make it harder. Do you see that tree? I want you to lift it out of the ground, roots and all then place it back in its spot without killing it.” She glared at me as she moved back to sit next to Samuel.
I sighed and focused on the tree. It was easier than the first. I even made the tree do a few flips, just to show her I was bored.
She sat with her jaw on the floor as the tree landed with a heavy thud. Its roots reconnected to the soil and it returned to its day.
“Perhaps something I have not mastered already.” I suggested sarcastically, putting my hands on my hips.
“Fine then. Take this rock and turned it into a ring.” She tossed me a rock and sat back, smug.
To make a ring, I would have to go inside the rock’s minerals and pull them out into a ring’s form then I would have to call on Fire to mold it together.
She gasped as I handed her back a ring.
“The training is complete. Apparently, you know everything you need to. Good day.” She stood up and stormed away, growling low in her throat.
I laughed and took her seat next to Samuel. The dragons had opened up and were now prancing around in the tall grass, purring loudly. Dimitri was trying to fly, using Samuel as a launching pad. We both laughed as he fell with a shocked expression on his small face.
“Samuel, can you imagine what would have happened if you had not been assigned to me?”
“I would be back in Greenswood, harvesting the crops and tending to the fields and you would be in the castle.”
“No. I would be dead. I wanted to thank you for guarding me and I also wanted to let you know I trust you with my life. If you ever, ever need any favors, you can ask me.”
“I have one favor.”
“What is it? Whatever it is, consider it done.”
“Alright. I would like you to tell me of your feelings towards me. Last night was…not something that happens between a guard and his princess. And I am rather confused about you. Sometimes I feel you hate me and other times I wonder if you know I exist. I would just like you to clear that up, my lady.”
“I do not how I feel, Samuel.” I whispered although I already knew I loved him.
“Well, would you at least try? Please?”
“Some days, it takes all I have inside not to kiss you.” I declared, pushing away the worries and restraints.
His gaze moved down to my lips as he moved closer.
“Nikita.”
“I know I should not have said that. But it is the truth. I want to kiss you. Very, very badly.”
His hand reached up and stroked my face, his eyes flickering back and forth between mine and my lips.
“Nikita!”
We jumped apart as Leia came back into the clearing.
“The egg is hatching.”
