Nikita's POV

“Nikki, wake up.” I turned to look at Samuel in confusion but he was still smiling down at the little boy. In fact, everyone was frozen.

“Nikki, come on, princess.” Then I felt a pair of lips brush against mine. The vision faded away and when I opened my eyes, I met Samuel’s blue ones.

“What is it? Is something wrong?” I asked, pushing myself up onto my elbows.

“Mother made breakfast.”

“I am too tired to eat.”

“No. You went to bed last night without any food and if I have to feed you myself, I will.” He took my hand and gave it a few tugs, making me fully sit up.

“I will go downstairs if you kiss me.”

“That can be arranged, my lady.” He smiled before leaning down to press his lips to mine again.

After we pulled away, he led me downstairs, his warm hand pressed against the small of my back.

“Good morning.” Elena greeted the second I entered the room.

I started to smile at her but it soon turned into a frown when I spotted Klaire sitting next to Ryker.

“What is she doing here?”

“Well, good morning to you too.” Klaire smirked, chuckling.

“I will not sit in the same room as her.” I hissed to Samuel, too low for the others to hear.

“Ignore her. Sit with me and pretend she does not exist.” He sat down, pulling me into a seat next to his.

“Nikki. I need to talk to you.” Hilary whispered, sitting next to me.

“I have nothing to say to you.”

“Please?”

“Samuel, what are we doing today?” I ignored her, tossing my hair as I turned to my guard.

“What would you like to do?” he asked, pausing and glancing over at me.

“I want to spend the day with you.” I took his hand underneath the table, feeling his fingers tangle with mine.

“You two are sickeningly cute, you know that?” Klaire joked, still smiling her over-confident crooked smirk.

“I shall take that as a compliment.” I snapped back, glaring over at her. Samuel’s hand squeezed mine in a warning and I let my gaze drop to my plate.

“Someone is in a very rotten mood.”

“Hilary, I will take you up on that talk now.” I needed some excuse to leave or else I had a feeling I would end up strangling Klaire.

Hilary looked up, surprised then she nodded and stood up.

“Be careful.” Samuel murmured before I left with her. We went outside, back to the same spot.

“Nikki, I’m sorry. I just wanted you to come back.”

“Be quiet! We are not actually having a conversation. I just needed to get out of there before I murdered Klaire.”

“What has she done?”

“Too many things to count.”

“Do you forgive me?”

“No. You used Samuel to try to get me to do something I do not want to do. Why can’t you just accept my choice?”

“Because you were made for the throne! Alright, I said it! You have been put through so much in your life, Nikita, and you deserve to rule. I am nothing but a replacement. I will never be able to rule the way you would. These villages, these people, they deserve a good queen and that is what you are.”

“I am not a good queen.” I muttered, looking down at the ground.

“Then Nathaniel is a good person.”

“Talking about me again, are we?” a chilling voice taunted as a shadowed figure stepped forward.

“Nathaniel?”
