Nikita's POV

“Where to, now?” Samuel asked as he strapped my bags onto my horse. The dragons were each in their own bag, some on my horse, some on his.

“Take me to Greenswood.”

“Why do you want to go there, my lady?”

“Because it is where you grew up.”

We stayed silent after that, an awkward tension between us. Neither of us had forgotten what had almost happened in the pasture. But it wasn’t like it was the first time we had almost kissed. But this time felt different. I wanted it more.

“So, um, about the pasture-” he started but I broke him off.

“Please do not bring it up.”

“Are you ashamed of it?”

“No. But it cannot happen. I am a princess and I swore an oath to never kiss another man before my husband.”

“Nikita.” He pulled both of horses to a stop, turning mine to face him.

“Please Samuel. Let it be.”

“You said you wanted to kiss me. Do you still want to?”

“I did not expect my first kiss to be in the middle of nowhere on top of a horse.”

“Neither did I. Now stop avoiding the question.”

“Watch your tone. You are still my guard.”

“Please then. Please stop avoiding the question.”

“Yes. I still want to kiss you. Not here and not now. We can never be together, Samuel.”

“A wise woman once told me that the law was simply just words.”

“Not to me. If I cannot follow my own laws, how am I supposed to put them down?”

“Well then, when you’re queen, remove it.”

“The king decides when to remove laws.” I reminded him quietly, almost not wanting to admit it. Nathaniel would never lift the law. He would catch on and kill Samuel then possibly me.

“Let’s just keep moving.”

I sighed before reaching out and taking his hand.

“I want you to forget what happened in the pasture. I want you to forget we had this conversation.” I compelled, feeling a little guilty. It needed to be done though.

We carried on and he started leading me to Greenswood, chatting about his old life on the way. We had to stop for the night and I would be lying if I said we didn’t sleep in each other’s arms. Why did something so wrong feel so right?

Author's Note:

Short chapter, I know. It's also really, really sucky. I just needed to get the compelling out of the way and stuff. I guess you can say this one is a filler.

Well, that's it for today, boogles. BYEEE!
