Here you go, musicismylife21! Hopefully I don't disappoint with this one!

Samuel's POV

After three days, the next dragon appeared. It was a pale yellow with scattered red and black spots along its back and nose. It was a male, Dimitri. He also took to me, just as much as Keegan had. It drove Nikita mad, though she would never admit it.

“One more. The white one. I have never seen a white dragon egg, in all of my years.” Leia murmured, stroking the last egg. She left for the night, her eyes drooping.

We were all sleep deprived from the dragons. They were like infants, only louder and they had claws. Sharp, sharp claws.

I knocked on Nikita’s door, smiling down at Keegan as he wrapped himself around my ankle, barking at Dimitri when he came too close.

“Come in.” her beautiful voice called.

I opened the door and paused, eyes widening.

She was brushing her long blond hair out, in a short sleeping gown with a low dip in the back that exposed her soft white skin.

“If you are to be my guard, Samuel, you will see me in much worse than a sleeping gown. Now, what is it that you need?”

My mind blanked and I struggled to remember the reason I had come here.

“I-I came to say goodnight.” I lied, shrugging as I forced my eyes away from the large area of exposed skin.

She smiled and turned, placing the brush down. She slowly walked towards me, her pale blue eyes locking with mine. She slid her hand up my arm to my shoulder and got on her toes to softly kiss my cheek, staying there for a moment longer than needed. Not that I was complaining.

“Goodnight, Samuel.” she whispered, reaching her other hand up to stroke my cheek.

At this point, I was merely a mouse and she was the cat.

“G-goodnight, princess.” I managed to get out, holding my breath as her hands slid back down my arms.

“Would you like to stay here for the night?” she offered, backing away slowly. I immediately nodded.

I heard her musical laugh as she patted the bed and left to retrieve the rest of the dragons.

Keegan crawled up to my shoulder as I sat down. He gave me a worried look and nipped at my ear as Dimitri hopped onto the bed beside me.

“What? Did you not see the way she was looking at me? Would you have said no?” I snapped quietly, gently nudging Keegan off my shoulder.

“Sometimes I feel they understand my words.”

I jumped at her voice, hoping she did not hear what I had said. But the smile on her face told me she had.

“Maybe they do. They are intelligent creatures after all.” I pointed out, my voice quivering and breaking at the end. What was going on? A few moments ago, I had my own free will. Now, I was her toy and she knew the game she was playing very well.

“They seem to like you. Maybe even more so than me.” She nodded to Keegan and Dimitri, playing a lock of her hair. Her beautiful, silky hair.

“Maybe they prefer their own gender?”

“Or maybe they just like you. Maybe this is a sign that you are meant to be my guard. My grandmother once told me of a story about a guard and his princess. They were in love, hopelessly so. She was a Drago, he was a farm boy. All of her dragons took to him, loved him like a father. Then her father found out and had him hung.” Her eyes flew down to the dragons at her feet, both of them purring loudly.

“I am sorry.”

“Why?”

“You seem sad.”

“That still does not explain your apology.”

“I do not like it when you are sad.”

“Neither do I. We have something in common then.”

“Are you tired, my lady?”

“Hmm, not really. Are you?”

“Yes. Your dragons, your sweet innocent dragons, are monsters when you are asleep. I have marks all up and down my arms thanks to this one.” I pointed at Caspian, who hid behind Nikita’s leg with a whimper.

“If you ever wish to have a child, you will need to get used to it.” She started to blow out the candles that lit up the room then came to join me on the bed.

“I doubt I will ever have a child of my own. I will most likely be chasing after yours for the rest of my life.” I teased, grinning at her as we stretched out on the bed.

“I never want children. Not with Nathaniel.”

“I think he will protest to that.”

“I do not care about what he thinks. I will be the one who carries the child, I will be the one to take care of it. What about you? Do you ever want children?”

With you. “Like I said, I will be too busy tending to you to worry about a child.”

I saw her smile drop and her lips turned into an adorable pout.

“What did I say? I do not like to see you sad.” I reminded her, smoothing her hair back. It was softer than I remembered.

She slowly smiled again, a small little smirk.

“Why?”

“Why what?” I kept my hand in her hair, playing with one of the long locks.

“Why do not like to see me sad?”

“Why would anyone like to see someone sad?”

“I would like to see Nathaniel sad.”

“Nathaniel is a bad man who deserves to be more than sad.” I growled, which earned a giggle out of her.

“Yes he is. I completely agree with you on that.”

The next words came out without my approval. “I love the sound of your laugh.”

She paused, flickering her eyes up to meet mine.

“I should not have said that. Forgive me, princess. I should not be here either.” I sat up and started to leave when I felt her small hand grasp my wrist.

“Stay. Please.” she whispered, her fingers sliding down to tangle with mine as she gave a few light tugs on my hand.

I sighed before allowing her to pull me back onto the bed.

“You have every right to speak your mind, Samuel. I wish I had the courage to do that. Never be ashamed or embarrassed to speak the truth.”

“Sometimes you sound like a poet.”

“Thank you.”

We managed to stay awake for a few more hours, simply talking while the dragons curled into balls and purred loudly.

Eventually, her breathing started to slow and she slumped against my chest, her eyes fluttering shut.

I was soon to follow.
