-11- The Truth
When the landing of the plane was announced, Xinxin jumped up. She jumped up and clapped her hands cheerfully. I am always amazed at how far she is already for her three years and what she already understands.
Minutes go by and Xinxin gets more and more excited. And when the first passengers are seen, I have to hold her down so she doesn't just run off. Fidgeting, she tried to free herself, but she didn't have a chance.
When Yibo was finally visible and he waved at us, there was no stopping her anymore. She got free of me and ran to Yibo. He lifted her up and they hugged each other like old friends who hadn't seen each other for years.
Yibo came to me with his suitcase and Xinxin. He put her down and hugged me. "My ZhanZhan, now we have more time." He whispered and I had trouble not getting a red face.
Because my daughter insisted that Yibo carry her, I took the suitcase from him while Yibo reached for my free hand. I looked at him startled, but he only smiled as if this was still completely normal after all these years.
As soon as we were in the car and I drove off, Xinxin fell asleep again immediately. I don't know why, but she is rarely awake when we are in the car. She holds up well for short distances, but she usually sleeps through longer distances.
But it wasn't just her sleeping, Yibo's eyes were also closed. And only when we arrived at my house, I woke them both up. Yibo stared at my house and Xinxin dragged him into the house right behind her.
She showed him her children's room first, and he didn't even have time to take off his jacket. Then she showed him her bathroom, the kitchen, the living room, my bedroom and my bathroom and then the guest room.
I quickly prepared some sandwiches while Yibo was guided through the house by my daughter. Afterwards she allowed him to eat. Since I knew that Yibo was very tired and I could use an hour or two of sleep myself, I persuaded Xinxin to wait a little longer until she could play with Yibo.
"Yibo must first sleep. Just like we did when we got home. And my Xinxin should get a little more sleep too." I said to her and she was already rubbing her eyes.
I took her up to her room and put her in her bed. It didn't take her five minutes to fall asleep. Meanwhile, Yibo had been showering in my bathroom.
When Yibo finished showering, he went straight to his room and went to sleep. And I myself crawled back into my bed, hoping that my daughter would give me at least two hours of sleep before she woke up again.
In the end, Xinxin slept a full four hours before she still tired, came into my bedroom and lay down next to me to continue sleeping cuddled up against me for another hour.
But then there was no stopping for Xinxin. She was awake and she wanted to be entertained. But in order not to wake up Yibo, we went outside to our little yard and played in the sandbox.
Fortunately I had prepared lunch the day before, so we only needed to warm it up when we got hungry.
That day Yibo slept through until dinner. I saved some of the lunch for him, which I warmed him up and then he ate it very quickly.
Xinxin was already very tired from playing so much and lay in front of the TV in the living room on the sofa. She played around in her hair, a sign that she would soon fall asleep.
So I took her to her bed, where she turned around and fell asleep immediately.
I handed Yibo a beer when I came back downstairs. And he looked at me for a long time. "I don't even know where to start." He said.
So it's time for the truth!
" The best thing is, I'll just talk first, and if you have any questions. You' II ask them after, okay?"
"Yeah, okay." I say this and prepare myself inwardly for whatever may come.
"Well, I guess I'd better start with this... The wedding of Yanli and me wasn't real. All that was just an act. To make my father believe he got his way. He wanted this wedding because he hoped your parents would give him financial support for his new project.
He chose Yanli because he knew a marriage between two men is not possible in China. Now you're probably wondering why I'm making a special point of this. It is because when my father told me to marry Yanli, I immediately resisted.
I told him that if I had to marry someone. Then Zhan, not his older sister. But he immediately said it isn't legal, so he was against it. He needs a legal wedding.
He didn't care what I thought about it at all. Besides, he knew I'd been secretly in love with you since I was 14 years old. He knew all this and insisted on marrying Yanli just for his own purposes.
And as if that were not enough, he also demanded that I also end my friendship with you. He said that either I would end the friendship or he would make sure that your parents would send you abroad and I would never see you again.
He told me that I had to stay married to Yanli for at most three years and then I could devote myself to you again.
He said all this that afternoon when we came back from camping. He threatened me for an hour that I would never see you again if I did not do what he wanted. He also told me that you supposedly already knew about the wedding and said that you would be happy for me and Yanli. It was a complete shock to me.
So I gave in and avoided you and told you these things which probably hurt me more than you.
At a meeting with your parents, they took the opportunity when my father went outside for a phone call. They told me they would agree to the wedding and that they would fake the wedding. They wanted everything to look as real as possible. And to make sure that nothing really attracts attention, your parents and Yanli said it was better if you didn't know anything.
I got involved in this game. We celebrated the fake wedding and afterwards Yanli and I spent a month with your grandparents in the country. Each of us had our own room and they were also in on it.
When we returned, I wanted to tell you the truth right away, because thanks to your parents I learned that you actually knew nothing about the wedding plans and that you never gave your blessing.
I didn't want to lose you and that's why I got involved in all this crap. I let my father threaten me that your parents would send you abroad. Which I couldn't bear.
I played the whole game for you. Only to find out at Yanli's and my return that you left the country a week before. That you don't answer calls or messages and your parents didn't even know where you were in the US."
