Four years have passed since our wedding. Four happy years. Today is our fourth wedding anniversary and Xinxin's eighth birthday. And once again, we're celebrating at the ice rink. It's a tradition for us now.
It's now two years ago, when Xinxin said on her sixth birthday, "I wish for something that will benefit our family."
We thought she meant another pet, because at the age of five years, she wanted a cat. We adopted two cats. She named them Wei and Lan. I don't know why.
But two years ago her wish was completely different. She stood between Yibo and me, put her arms on our shoulders and looked at us one by one: "Dad, Daddy, I wish me a brother."
Yibo asked her if she really wanted to and if she knew that we had to adopt a child: "As you know, neither I nor your daddy can have a baby. So we'd have to adopt one."
But Xinxin was so smart when she was six years old that she said, "You can also find a surrogate mother to carry my brother."
She really left us speechless. And she reminded us that it was her birthday wish and that we had to fulfill it.
Yibo and I talked before about the possibility of having another child. And the subject of surrogate mother also came up. I told Yibo that if he wanted to, he could use his semen for it. There is already a child from me. And somehow I knew that this topic would come up again.
And then two years ago when Xinxin expressed this as her wish, we talked about it for several days and then decided to look for a surrogate mother. And we also found one, pretty, intelligent and gentle.
One month later we had her artificially inseminated with Yibo's sperm and a few weeks later we got the feedback that the insemination worked. And that right at the first time.
The surrogate mother, a Chinese woman named Yue Fei, lived with my in-laws for the duration of the pregnancy. I still call them that, they will always be my in-laws.
And then one night my mother-in-law called and shouted through the phone: "Get dressed and go. The baby's coming!"
We drove to the clinic where my in-laws were already waiting. Of course we had brought Xinxin with us, because it was her birthday wish. And it took more than 12 hours until it was said, " Congratulations, it's a boy!"
Xinxin and Yibo both fell into my arms overjoyed. Half an hour later, we could see our son as well. We named him (Attention) Wang Yizhan. Now there were four of us, not three.
Yibo is a truly devoted father for Xinxin and Yizhan. He gave up his job to take care of our children. And every day he tells me he is just happy.
So our daughter turns eight years old today, and we celebrate her birthday with her and her one-year-old brother. Yizhan has just started to learn to walk and he is already on the ice with his sister, learning to glide over the ice.
Already now he looks like Yibo and I believe he will become a man like Yibo is. Even though the little one laughs a lot and always smiles.
