I hear Xinxin talking to Yibo. They've been talking for almost half an hour. I was just about to go up to her room and remind her of her bedtime when the front doorbell rang.

Since I wasn't expecting anyone to visit, I slowly went to the door and Xinxin came downstairs as well. I open the door and find myself in a firm embrace shortly afterwards and Xinxin cries out joyfully loud "Mama Haley." While she still holds the phone in her hand.

Haley, a good friend of mine that I met here in the States, has been in the U.S. Army for four years. She is often abroad for missions and whenever she is in the States she comes to visit us.

Xinxin used to call her Mama, I just don't know why. But the fact that she said this while still holding the phone in her hand was anything but not good.

I quickly released myself from the hug and took the phone. And as I suspected, Yibo was still on and roared through the phone who Mama Haley was.

"Ah, haha. She's just a good friend who just got back from an overseas assignment and is coming to visit." I say to Yibo.

"ZhanZhan? Is that you?"

"Yeah, who else?"

"Can we talk?"

"Um, actually..."

"Xiao Zhan, I beg you. Let's just talk about this. I have something important to tell you."

"Okay, wait a minute."

I tell Haley to watch over Xinxin for a moment because I have an important phone call. I can still hear Xinxin saying it's Yibo her new dad. Then I'm in the bedroom. I feel very nervous and excited and shaking all over.

"ZhanZhan. My dad."

"What about him? Is he acting weird again?"

The funeral, the house, moving arrangements. Please believe me that I really wanted to get in touch."

"I believe you."

"Oh, yeah, I have to tell you something. Seungyoun is not my boyfriend! He never was. I never had feelings for anyone but you! I love only you. I'll explain everything to you calmly when I see you. Please trust me, ZhanZhan. I really love only you. So please don't leave me, OK? I need you so much right now, you can't imagine how much I miss you."

I decide to swallow my questions and my anger of the last weeks. Yibo's father has died. Even though they didn't have a good relationship and didn't see each other more than a few times a year, he was still Yibo's father.

After his mother also died, he now only has his brother. And he lives with my sister in Shanghai and has avoided the family like the plague in the last years. He rarely contacted Yibo, but Yibo had never done anything to him.

"Okay, Yibo. Let's not talk about this now. I miss you, too. I'll talk to my boss in the morning. Then I'll write to you and we can still talk later. But at least this way you'll know about it."

So I assume he's in a really bad place right now. And that's why I have to go to Beijing.

Yibo gave me his address in Beijing and told me he lives there with Seungyoun and someone named Wooseok. They are apparently Yibo's best friends and they are also a couple. But Yibo wanted to tell me more details when we meet.

We say goodbye with a heavy heart. Yibo had an appointment and I have to put my daughter to bed. And then I will certainly have to explain in detail who Yibo is. Because Haley is probably dying to know everything.
