chapter four. safety in numbers
JASPER walkedinto the biggest room of his house, finding several pairs of golden and brown eyes already watching him and Emmett, cautiously waiting for some type of answer. Himself and his brother had just been out, following the scent of a nomad that had been suspiciously snooping around Bella's room. The thought of another vampire being this close to her sent chills down each of their spines, wondering what they had wanted. It might have just been a coincidence, that they had stumbled upon Bella━━but it seemed too far-fetched. Not only is she the only teenage girl to have become friendly with a coven a vampires, but if it was just a regular vampire, he most definitely wouldn't have left her father alive... he'd have been drained of his blood in a matter of seconds.
So, they came to a conclusion: "Someone's orchestrating this." It shouldn't have been a shock to any of them, but it was. One day, Bella's reckless presence involved with a family of vampires was bound to catch up with them. They had just been waiting for the inevitable, and now, it was finally here.
Bella questioned whether Victoria, a vampire they had come across in the past, who had previously tried to kill Bella along with her own coven (both of which were now dead, thank God), but Alice only shook her head, instantly dismissing the idea. "I would have seen her decide." Alice's powers came in handy more often than not, especially in situations like the one they were stuck in now, except, the person who was behind it, must've knew of her powers... then, she wouldn't be able to see them, like she could others. "I don't think it's the Volturi, either. I've been watching Aro's decisions, too."
"So we keep looking." growled Emmett, who had recently become seemingly very protective over Bella, someone who he easily deemed as his little sister, now. It was obvious the whole family would protect Bella, because of how special she had become to Edward. Ultimately, she was apart of the family, and there was no going back.
Carlisle spoke up, his eyes finding solace in each member around him. "We'll also take shifts guarding Bella at her house." There was a pause, before he continued. This time, his eyes held something of sympathy and worry, but they were aimed towards Jasper. "...And Georgine."
A silence enveloped the air around them, everyone looking towards Jasper to watch his reaction, but he did nothing. He stood still, stiff, eyes wider than normal but not moving an inch from his father's. Clenching and unclenching his fists, grinding his teeth together, he slowly let the anger dissipate away from his body━━he really didn't want to unleash his anger now, especially not in front of Bella. Finally, he shook his head as his gaze dropped to the floor. "Why would we need to watch her?"
