chapter twenty two.
fear of the volturi

BY the time the next day rolled around, they were packed, and ready to go.

Everyone had somewhere the be━━everyone had a part to play in this plan of theirs. Carlisle and Esme would go to see one family, Rosalie and Emmett another, Jasper and Alice another, and then Bella and Edward, alongside Georgine, Jacob and Renesmee.

Georgine felt completely inclined to follow wherever Bella went, some sort of protective instinct overtaking everything else she had ever known. She supposed it was a little like how Jacob was around Renesmee, just involving a different sort of bond.

But, both bonds were unbreakable, they knew that.

The night before, not too long after Georgine had managed to calm herself down, the four sisters went hunting together. On their trips to gather as many witnesses and family members as they could, each and every one of them needed to have their full strengths, they needed to be completely focused on what they were supposed to do, so they could go home, safely, without having to worry about an army of vampires coming to kill them all. No one thought anything bad would happen whilst they were away━━why should it? They were only going to see their distant (extremely distant) relatives, ask for help on Carlisle's behalf. There was only a slight possibility some of them would be threatening, especially when they were told they'd be going against the Volturi.

"Alright." Jacob started, walking into the room where the rest of them were situated, packing everything and making sure what they needed was with them. "Let's get this show on the... road." His voice trailed off, turning into just a soft whisper, barely audible if the family hadn't been full of the vampiric species.

Georgine was standing with Jasper━━they hadn't said their goodbyes yet, something neither of them were particularly looking forward to, but both knowing it was something that was necessary. Watching where Jacob's eyeline landed, she spotted someone walking up towards the house, hearing their footsteps crunch above the dead leaves that had fallen during the night, twigs snapping, too. It was Sam.

Just at his presence, the family began to think the worst.

Walking outside, the family came face-to-face with Sam, the alpha of their wolf pack. Ever since Jacob had declared that Renesmee was his imprint, the pack had gone back to being somewhat okay with the coven of vampires. They weren't exactly best buddies, but, then again, they never were to begin with, were they?

A solemn expression passed along the alpha's features. "Alice asked me to give you that." Alice? Georgine thought, why would Alice go to Sam? It was a note, written in cursive font (definitely Alice's), explaining for them to gather as many witness as they could before the snow hits the ground. That must have been what she had seen in her vision. "She crossed our lands to the ocean last night."
