chapter nine.
lion and lamb

GEORGINE stood lonesomely in the woods.

Arms hanging limp at her sides, fingers fiddling with the straps of her jeans, her chocolate brown eyes raked over her surroundings. It wasn't too cold (at least, not to Georgine), but it was cold enough for one too see the breath as you breathed, as your teeth shuddered against one another. Light frost had begun to coat over the leaves crunched against the forest floor, demised through the trunch of hiker's boots; their inevitable end. The trees, too, stood lifelessly, swaying gingerly as the light wind breezed past, a soft whistle being dragged along with it.

Hours before, Bella had been the one to stand in her place. It was her task to smear her blood on the surroundings within the forest, a false trail that would lead the vampires in the direction of the clearing, where the fight would take place. Georgine recalled how she was told that she didn't have to sacrifice drops of her blood, the same way Bella did━━because her blood wasn't the same; no scent, nothing. That thought alone still creeped her out slightly, still sent shivers down her spine, but she let it float away, drag itself along with the wind.

It had only been a couple of minutes, that Georgine had been standing in the same place, waiting for Jasper's presence. He had told her to meet her in the forest (don't ask why he chose there, of all places...), anywhere, mentioning that he would be able to find her. Originally, this confused her. How could he find her if she didn't have a scent? But, Jasper explained that it wasn't her scent he would tracking, but, rather, her presence. He knew where she was, in the entire world, due to the fact that it was her. If that didn't make her heart flutter in the slightest, she didn't know what else would...

A crunch-like sound suddenly reverberated from Georgine's right, her head snapping to where it came from immediately. But, her eyes only landed on a familiar figure━━Jasper, in all his glory. She knew he had ran there, but he wasn't out of breath in the slightest. The only way Georgine knew for definite he had used his enhanced speed to get there was from the way his hair hung, floppy against his forehead, strands of curls placed here and there. Even with a messy head of hair, he still managed to look beautiful...

A smirk was plastered across his face, as he stalked slowly towards the girl, who automatically began to relax. When Jasper spoke, voice soft against the harsh crunch of the leaves, his eyes never left her own, imbedding themselves deep within her soul. "Hey, you seem a little on edge━━you okay?"

Georgine only nodded her head. "Yeah," she breathed, the cold air exposing her voice as it swayed in the grey atmosphere, leaving it behind to be one with the wind, "I just━━" an awkward laugh escaped her lips, "━━for a moment, I didn't think it was you."
