oh merde
( twilight. breaking dawn pt i )chapter seventeen.
bumps in the roadJUST a few hours after Georgine and Bella's short-briefed conversation, Georgine had swapped 'shifts' of looking out over Bella with Esme. Whilst she believed she could be the one protecting Bella for hours upon end, she agreed she needed time to herself.
Although, that only really consisted of herself willingly joining a group of them in researching about what might be happening in regards to Bella. Of course, they all knew she was pregnant, and that her baby was probably immortal, like themselves. But, the question lingered as to whether the child would bring about chaos all around them, whether it would be as dangerous as it seems... whether Bella would be able to survive.
Georgine was flicking through books, grabbing more and more from the pile Alice had made next to her when she declared that she wanted━━needed━━to help, too. There wasn't much to be found, she came to realise, after quickly skimming through her twentieth book━━since this type of thing hadn't necessarily happened before (immortal children... like, come on!).
The Cullens had told Georgine a few stories of women giving birth to immortal children, but they had been immortal themselves, too. Inevitably, the Volturi had found out and killed them all; their reasoning being that children were irresponsible, anyway, let alone with such power, such hunger, within them, clawing to get out... They would be the ones to expose them all.
It was immoral... but maybe it was what kept their existence a secret for so long.
It was immoral... and Georgine wasn't going to let that happen to Bella.
But, the women were able to survive through their labour, able to give birth to their beautiful children, only to have them snatched away and killed right in front of their very eyes. Bella wouldn't even get that far.
As Georgine went to pick up yet another book, a sigh escaping her lips as she closed the finished one, Jasper walked into the room. His footsteps were so little, she wouldn't have noticed his presence if it wasn't for the sudden wave of calmness that washed over her. He could sense her anxieties, sense her worries, and it was at times like those where she was grateful Jasper possessed such a gift, even if the feeling only lasted a short while.
Looking up at him, she immediately noticed the frown plastered across his face, the furrow rooted within his brows, the rigidness of his body. Normally, the sight would've concerned her, but Jasper's calmness didn't give her any opportunity to feel that way. So, she tightly smiled up at him, tired-like eyes finding solace within his own. He forced himself to smile at her, too, before coming to a stop next to her chair.
