Y/n pov
You woke up bright and early, no new nightmares. You were the first one to leave just excited to be back. You needed to feel better, and the best way to do that is throw yourself into work.
You were happy to finally be in potions, every professor was talking about the O.W.Ls but you were sure you'd be just fine. You sat with Harry, Ron and Hermione facing Draco's table. Today you were making a draught of peace, which you made a version of first year. You wanted to scoff, it was specific, but as long as you followed the instructions it was easy.
You were doing it and having a rather graceful time, you noticed Draco was also having an easier time than most, but his potion wasn't going be exact. Snape was looking around when he stopped at your table. He looked at yours.
"You've improved since the last time you attempted this potion L/n." Snape said making some look at you and Ron mutter,
"You've made this before?" he asked looking at his mess of a potion.
"Once in first year and once when I was nine, boy was that a disaster." You muttered back. Snape looked at Hermione's mad that he couldn't see anything wrong with it making you smile. When he got to Harry you watched him look down at Harry and smile. Uh-oh.
"Tell me Potter can you read?" Snape asked
"yes I can." Harry said annoyed.
"can you read the third line of instructions for me?"
Harry read them and realised what he did wrong. You looked at Snape with a sad look, why did he get a kick out of this? With the wave of his wand Potter's potion was gone.
"Professor?" You asked.
"Yes, L/n?" He asked looking at you.
"Isn't it a bit unfair to give Harry no marks. I mean some people are doing much worse." You said looking at Crabbe and Goyle. Whose cauldrons were a mess.
"Well I'm afraid Potter's potion was beyond saving." Snape told you.
"I bet I can get Potter the correct potion, before class ends." You said making many listening heads turn.
"Or what?" He asked.
"If I win you give Harry full marks on this potion for today and Gryffindor points. But if I can't, I get detention for the rest of term no complaints. And you can take points off of Gryffindor for trusting me." Snape looked at the time and then you.
"You have fifteen minutes... if Potter agrees." Snape said making the class look at Harry, he was going to put his trust in a Slytherin.
"Harry?" You asked.
"Um... do you know what your doing?" He questioned. In reality no, but you had an idea.
"I have an idea." You told him.
"Okay... I trust you." He said, hoping he didn't live to regret it.
"Times running out L/n better hurry." Snape said. You ran over to his stores and grabbed materials that weren't even in this potion making some spectators laugh; mainly Pansy. You made Harry move so you could work, you were working fast. You then, looked at the time, five minutes left.
"Your potion looks nothing like the drought of peace." Snape commented.
"Not yet." You corrected as you continued to work, you were now the sole attention of the classroom, you were finished the base of the potion and you could see Snape's smile as your hair fell in front of your face, but then you grabbed a pipette and took some of your perfected potion and you looked at Snape with a smile and saw him put the pieces together and his smile turned into a frown and scowl. You made exactly one drop fall into Harry's cauldron and you watched at the entire potion turned into the drought of peace, the class was in awe. You smiled and looked at the potion professor.
"With three minutes to spare." He looked down at you visibly angry.
"Fifteen... points.... To Gryffindor...." He said begrudgingly, making Harry turn to Hermione and Ron stunned. You smiled widely, he actually did it! "L/n... Detention for the entire week. With me."
"Wha- I made the potion-" you tried to argue.
"Speak out of turn again and it'll be a month." Snape said darkly. You knew he didn't like being showed up.
"... Yes sir." You said holding your tongue.
He instructed you all to ladle your potion into a jar and label it with your name and the class did silently from the tension, he assigned twelve inches of parchment for homework and you didn't mind it. finally, was over and you could finally breath, the Gryffindor's were amazed at you, some of the Slytherins too, many were mad at you, for helping a rival.
You left out with the trio and Harry looked over at you.
"Y/n what did you do?" He asked.
"Oh, simple really, I made a duplication potion and duplicated my potion, meaning your potion is an odd twin of mine." You said with a smile.
"Why did you do that though?" Ron asked.
"I told you all at dinner the other day, I was going to challenge Snape and his dumb rules, even more so with Harry having O.W.Ls this year, Snape will be picking on him, so anything I can do to help I will." You said to the group.
"What about you?" Hermione asked sounding nervous.
"I told you before I made that potion my first year, in potions I'll be fine, I'm an animagus, I've study charms for years before I even got by Hogwarts letter, Herbology will be breezy, care for magical creatures should be laid back, divination comes easy to me and DADA... well I know enough to teach the class myself. I'm all set." You told them.
"We get it you're smart." Ron said with a hint of jealously.
"yes, but that means I'm more than willing to help you two with homework."
"So you know everything already why are you here?" Ron asks.
"I'm learning, I wasn't allowed to practice a lot of magic, just theory, I'm here to learn, to practice, I'm no Hermione Granger." You said making Hermione blush.
"You could be if you got into ls trouble." Hermione told you.
"Yeah, but I'm not the brightest witch in all Hogwarts." You said looking at Hermione.
"You're smarter than me." Hermione said making you stop dead in your track, the trio did the same.
"Hermione, you had the timer turner third year and took double the courses, and second year you helped us by letting us know what was in the chamber of secrets. Fourth year you helped Harry study for the tournaments, when I was caught up in my drama, and kept your wits about you. All I seem to do I get hurt each year." You paused and shakily put your hand on Hermione's shoulder. "You are the brightest witch I know." Hermione smiled brightly and you all continued walking.
"You know," She said. "You don't just get hurt." Hermione said looking at you as you walked.
"Ron, is companionate, practical, Harry is well Harry potter, You're incredibly smart. That's why you're the trio." You told them.
"You know you bring something to us too, vast knowledge of blood status, you're reliable, you always stand up for what you know to be right, you're a quick learner, an excellent healer, and you're powerful. You don't just get hurt." Hermione repeated.
"Thank you, Hermione." You said lightly touch her shoulder. She knew how much this little contact meant to you.
"You're my friend... you can tell me about any problems." She said making you smile. You are really happy with the friends you have.
(Wash your hands. I hope you're all staying safe. Stay inside if you can. Thank you for being strong. Thank you for reading.)
