They say that blood is thicker than water, that family by blood means more than family that is chosen. I disagree. Family by blood is family that is forced; family that may not have been intended. Family that is chosen is there for a reason. They are people that want to love each other. They choose to care for these people, they choose to belong together and they aren't just thrown in randomly. Family by choice is the most caring place a person can be. They know that they are wanted, loved, and needed. They love better, more than any other family. They would go to the ends of the earth for each other, because they want to, not because they have to.
That's why I am now standing in an airport waiting for my brother to pick me up. My brother by adoption that is. He flew me out here to Michigan all the way from Philadelphia because he needs me to take his job for about three weeks. He's a band manager for Bring me the Horizon. There was a problem at the record label that he owns, Steel City Records, and he need to be back in three days to take care of business there, so he called me in to take over for him. I had never managed a band before in my life. I was an audio engineer, taught by my brother himself. This would be a different experience for me considering that it was rare for me to leave my city for more than a few days at a time and now I would be traveling to different states that I had never thought of visiting before even though I would only be on the last half of the tour.
The sound of my phone ringing broke me from my thoughts about the adventure I would have while I was away. I looked at my phone to see my brothers number. "Phil where the hell are you?" I answered. I had been waiting here for about twenty minutes and although I was a patient person I was also tired and ready to go to bed. The thought of sleep only made me more anxious to get to the hotel so I could sleep for a few hours.
"I can see you now, hang on." he answered and hung up. I put my phone in my pocket but I didn't see him anywhere. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to see Phil standing behind me. I hugged him tightly, excited to see my brother again. It was the first time I've seen him in about three months. I hadn't seen him since August when he was in PA for Warped Tour. I let him go and he looked at me, knowing that something had changed since the last time he had seen me. "You got your septum pierced?" He asked. I laughed at him and nodded.
Phil grabbed my bags and walked out of the airport as I followed behind him. He was pretty tall as he had always been, and his hair was still a dark brown close to my color but we both knew he was naturally blonde. He led me to a 15 passenger van with a trailer attached to it. I was expecting to see people in it but there were none. "Where's the band?" I asked. I had to skip a bit to catch up to Phil so that I could hear his answer.
"They're back at the hotel I'm about to take you to." He answered getting into the van. I got in the passengers side next to him and we drove to the hotel while catching up as he asked about our parents and if I had talked to our younger brother Jason recently, which I hadn't.
It wasn't very long before getting to a decent hotel where Phil led me inside, grabbing my bags from the back and slinging the heavy thing over his shoulder like it was nothing and from looking at how much muscle he gained, it probably didn't seem to weigh very much to him. We got on the elevator and Phil looked at me as I slumped against the wall before pressing a button. "Don't worry, you can sleep soon before you leave early tomorrow morning. I think your road time is 5:30 but I'm not entirely sure." I nodded at him and yawned before stepping out of the elevator doors that had just opened. I followed Phil to the end of the hall where he opened a door and let me into the dark but loud hotel room.
Phil turned on the lights and everyone got quiet and looked up. "We're back." Phil said sarcastically walking farther into the room after dropping my bags by the door. "Anne, you can sit down over there, Lee will move for you." His voice was full of power and a short, chubby boy with brown hair and golden hazel eyes got up and moved into the kitchen area with an extremely tall man with brown, shaggy hair and tattoo covered arms and neck. I looked at the boy who I assumed to be Lee and said thanks before sitting down. The boy who was next to me had short, dark hair and seemed to be pretty tall if he were to stand up. I couldn't really see what he looked like because he was intently looking at his phone.
