Finally, we had made it to New York City. It wasn't exactly Philly, but it was close enough. Despite being almost close to home, I was very close to my baby brother, Jason. He's 18 so maybe he isn't exactly a baby but to me he is. He's currently in New York for college, since he's studying to be a graphic designer for video games. He has an amazing artistic ability, and I admire it so much because I have a deep love for art but never had the ability to create any of my own.
Jason was practically my best friend growing up, considering we both had to endure the human pain in the ass that is Phil. The first thing that I did when I got out of the van was call him.
"Hello, my lovely sister, how may I service you this morning?" He answered, being the sarcastic ass that he is. We both laughed when he finished his sentence, "Are you in New York yet?" he asked excitedly. When he heard I was coming he called me immediately to force me into making plans with him. We didn't see each other very often and it was a rare occasion that I ever came to New York.
"Yes, we just got here. I'm not exactly sure where I am but if you send me an address to something I can meet you there, sound good? I'm hungry so I suggest that the place you chose involves eating." I laughed. I was so giddy and excited to see him, it's been a while since the last time we got to really hang out and talk to each other.
"Okay, fine, I'll send you the address to meet me at a diner, I'll be there in ten and it shouldn't take you that long either. I'll see you soon." I didn't get a chance to say anything before he hung up, but it wasn't long before he texted me the address and even some slight directions on where to go. I looked up the address on my phone and I was only a few blocks away so I decided that it wouldn't be that bad to walk despite the freezing cold.
I went back to the van and saw that the only one left was Oliver, so I decided to at least let him know that I would be gone for bit. "Hey, Oliver, I'm heading out to get a breakfast/lunch with my brother, I won't be gone super long but if there happens to be a major emergency or anything you can call me, okay?" I kind of tripped over a few words since I was still a little flustered by Oliver and the few times we kissed. My heart was pounding by the end of my sentence.
Oliver nodded at me and went to looking on his phone. I took his acknowledgment and started walking. I still had no idea what he meant when he said that he would prove to me that I was different. There really wasn't any solid proof that he could give me and thus far he hasn't shown me anything. I knew I was overthinking everything and my inner thoughts about him made me feel like I was in middle school, and I hated it. I am 23 years old, there's no reason for me to be acting this way over a guy that I barely knew; no matter how attractive he was.
It didn't take long for me to get to the diner where I saw Jason sitting on a bench outside. Jason was about the same height as me, and he had my same brown hair but with more of an auburn tinge to it. Despite him coming from a single mom in Montana and me coming from a Greek family in Vermont, we could actually pass for blood siblings if we wanted to.
I ran up to him and he stood up just in time for me to jump on him in a hug. He picked me up off my feet a little bit, just like he always did. We smiled and laughed, said our hellos and I missed yous and went inside to get food and warmth. We sat down and he gave me a brief on how college was going and all the progress he was making in he classes and everything else that he did. I sat quietly and listened with pride in my little brother. Phil and I did pretty well for ourselves but watching Jason take a different path on his own was an admirable thing to see. I wished a lot that I could be more like him; more adventurous, carefree.
"But enough about school. How has the tour been going?" he asked as he sipped at his coffee that had just been set down in front of him.
"Interesting to say the least. I like it, I would definitely tour again, as long as there's at least one other person with an American accent there." I laughed. As much as I loved the guys, it felt good to not have to decipher what someone was saying to me when their accent was a bit too much to understand.
"That's great. Any hot guys?" he asked, slyly as always and I just sat and blushed. I thought it might get by him but nothing did. Immediately, Jason got excited, wanting every last detail. He loved to gossip just a little too much. "Tell me everything. Who is he? Which band is he in? Is he good in bed?"
I laughed at how hyper he got so quickly. "Okay, his name is Oliver. Everyone else calls him Oli though. He's in Bring Me the Horizon, the band I'm managing. He sings, er, well, screams for them. He's a few years older than me and I don't know if he's good in bed, yet, but I can tell you that he is a fantastic kisser." I ended my little description by blushing worse and biting my lip like that was going to help me hide it.
Jason got excited, "Wait, okay, you kissed, that's progress at least. Now tell me how it happened."
He sat and listened intently as I explained how I went on the date with Josh and then slept with Ben. I had to briefly pause my story to give him descriptions on each and how they each were as kissers and Ben when it came to sleeping with him. I finally finished my story with my kiss with Oliver yesterday.
"So, now I have no idea whats going on with us. And Phil can't know anything about this until I figure it out." I told him sternly, even though I knew that he wasn't going to tell him anything anyway. Even though Phil already told me that Oliver was a good guy and I should go for it, I didn't need to give him any more encouragement.
"Okay, but the real question here is, do you have feelings for him?" He asked, after agreeing that he wouldn't tell our brother anything.
I had to sit back for a second and think about how I felt about Oliver. Sure, he was extremely attractive, and he seemed so far to be quite caring about the people in his life. I loved his passion for music, and the way he seemed to inspire so many people. I loved his eyes, and I could talk to him endlessly. The only real downside to Oliver was his job. He travels a lot and when he doesn't, he lives in England. If I did have feelings for him, a relationship could get really messy.
"You know what, yeah. I have feelings for him. A lot, actually, and I think he might have feelings for me, too." I was shy about admitting it but I knew that I had to. In order for me to figure out any of what was going on, I had to know what exactly it was that I wanted.
"Well then, that just means that I'll have to meet him. I'll be at the show tonight, I expect you can get me in, correct?" He asked. I laughed at him and nodded.
"Yes, I can get you in, just text me when you get there. I do, however, need to get back to the hoodlums that I am supposed to be managing. I'll see you tonight." I smiled at him and left money on the table for him to pay for my food and walked out quickly before he could object.
It took me about 15 minutes to make my way back to the van since I made a wrong turn and got a little lost. I didn't see any of the guys there so I assumed that they went to get food, too or just to see the city. I jumped in the drivers seat of the van, where I planned to wait for the guys. Once I was settled in I noticed that there was a blue sticky note on the steering wheel with Oliver's handwriting on it.
Every day, I am going to give you another reason why you are different from any other girl I know. Reason #1, I have never met a female tour manager in my life. -Oliver.
I smiled when I read it, and smiled even more that he signed it with Oliver instead of Oli. I put the note in my bag, and leaned back in the chair, still smiling. Maybe, just maybe, Oliver and I really did stand a chance.
