"What do you want, Evan?" I asked. I tried to walk past him and back to the group, but he stood frozen in my way.
"Do you mind?"
"Of course not," Evan smiled, but he did not budge.
"Is this revenge for Saturday night?"
Evan pulled his lips taut. "Not quite, but it could become it..."
"Look, wouldn't want your girlfriend to miss you..."
"Sasha? The cheerleader?" Evan asked with a frown.
"Yes...she is your girlfriend...isn't she?" I asked and crossed my arms.
Evan did exactly the same and hunched forward. "Depends, is Keith your boyfriend?"
"What? No Why do people keep thinking that?" I ask exasperated.
"Then, no, she isn't my girlfriend then...simply a friend who asked me out to coffee, and I was polite and inclined enough to say yes,"
"You mean, you manipulated her as such to think you have feelings for her...." I said and sighed. "Typical."
"She's pretty, but flaky like the cereal I have for breakfast every morning,"
I rolled my eyes. "Of course she is, and what, I'm the annoying pestering girl who cannot shut up?"
Evan smiled and he shook his head. He took a step closer and I took a step back.
"You're the mystery girl, who saved my life and not afraid to back down from the truth...sure, you're no fashion icon. I seriously question your hairstyle of two pigtails which is a serious ninety's look for a five-year-old..."
"Thanks," I responded sarcastically.
"But you're pretty enough to pull it off..." Evan winked at me, and a blush crept up my cheeks. "What are you doing tomorrow night?"
"I'm working till six, picking up my sister and then heading for quiet day home..."
"Perfect...I'll pick you up at seven," Evan turned and walked.
"Woah, hold your horses," I grabbed his arm and he turned around, flashing his grin.
"Easy princess..."
"You can't just expect a date from me...."
"Don't you want to go out with me?"
"Yes I do...I mean no...I mean," I responded completely flustered. "You can't just spring me like that. And besides..." I let his arm go and stared deep into his dark eyes. "How do I know that you won't simply toss me aside like Sally? Or Sasha? How can you guarantee that you won't break my heart...because you are a heart-breaker."
Evan leaned closer and I froze as his breath landed on my face.
"Because you're the exception...you always have been..." Evan leaned back up and walked off. Leaving me with just as much turmoil inside of me.
Did Evan Fletcher just ask me on a date?
