I took a seat in the classroom early Monday morning. I was very happy over the fact that my English assignment was completed, and I was finally a little ahead of the curve. People were swarming into the room, and Ellie squeezed and pushed to get a seat next to me.
"Hey, how was your weekend?" I asked her and she squealed.
"So...I met a guy..."
"No way..."
"Shut up," Ellie giggled. "So I was at the beach with my family and there was this cute surfer dude. At first, I thought, eh, he's so out of my league...then he kind of winked and smiled at me...so I thought...why ever not?" Ellie giggled. "So I went up and talked to him...we have a date this Tuesday..."
"Wow...you're brave," I said and laughed. I imagined walking up to a random stranger for a conversation? Especially a cute one? Not going to happen with me. Besides...my love life was complicated as it is.
"So is surfer-dude nice?"
Ellie nodded. "He's actually very shy, so when I first started talking to him, he was babbling and stumbling over his words unbelievably. It's so cute...then he ventured about how much he really likes coffee, and that he wouldn't mind going sometime...then he looked at me and awkwardly asked...and you?"
"And you?" I laughed. "So he was awkwardly asking you on a date...what did you say?"
"Hell yes!" Ellie smacked the table to receive a few glares around her. "Oops..."
"Well, if you get to know him well enough, you could maybe take him to the Masquerade..."
Ellie nodded excitedly. "Imagine that?"
I smiled. I was so happy to see Ellie moving on from Tyler. Considering what a jerk he was. However, I still haven't seen him at school. I should probably ask for an update.
As soon as our class was done, I packed up my books and walked out of the classroom.
"Hey princess,"
I jumped before turning to see Evan leaning against the wall near the class.
"Hey Evan," I responded turned and walked.
"So, after 6 days of us being apart...how do you feel?"
"It's actually been peaceful," I said and turned around to face Evan. "What do you want?"
"A second chance?"
"Why?"
"Because since the day you came into my life...things changed...I don't want to give that up quite just yet..."
"If we hadn't met, you wouldn't be here," I responded.
"Exactly," Evan said. "I know...I messed up. I did things, and as I'm thinking over and over and over about it, I realize that I tend to make a lot of mistakes...but one thing I got right, was you. Not so long ago, I was alone and lost, and then you came along and I was just home...I am a jerk, because I like to be powerful...but when I am alone with you, I feel like I am king of the world...and you are perfect in my eyes."
"Then you should have your eyes checked," I said and turned around.
"Seriously? You feel nothing?"
I stopped and sighed. "That's the problem, Evan. I'm a mess...a mixture of chaos, and if I don't take a step back...I don't know what could happen...I don't know what to feel."
Evan smirked, and it was seriously hard not to swoon. He tilted his head. "And why not take a risk?"
"Oh, but I did...the first time I decided to be with you...and it did not pay off...so why do that to myself a second time?"
"Because this time it will be different..."
"How can you guarantee that?" I asked and crossed my arms.
"I guess you will just have to trust me...come on, just one coffee at the Café...that's all I am asking now..."
I raised my brow.
"And no expectations or anything, just you and me, and a second-chance...if you don't like how things go at all then, then I will stay out of your hair..."
"But if I do?"
"Then I have that shot at a second chance?"
I sighed. "I'll just have to check if I have anything happening this afternoon... but now I need to go..."
"Yes, six o clock, you won't regret it," Evan turned around and I smiled. Dang it! Why did I say yes? I watched him as he walked through the hallway, his shoulders raised high, his hair in perfect place. I can't believe I just said yes....I shook my head. He would have to have a heck of a surprise for me to even consider changing my mind.
But he never let me down in that area.
I frowned as the phone in my pocket buzzed. It wouldn't be my parents, and neither anyone I know. Everyone should be busy right now. I checked my watch. School was drawing to an end.
I took the phone out and frowned. It was an unknown number. Maybe a telemarketer?
I answered the phone. "Hello..."
"Hey," a soft older woman's voice came through. "Is this Agnus?"
"Yes, who is this?"
"It's Mrs Rondo..."
My eyes widened. Keith's mother was calling me?
"Hey, how can I help?" I asked.
I heard a soft inhale and exhale. Mrs Rondo was trying to keep herself together. My heart started to beat faster. Something was wrong.
"It's about Keith..."
