I poured fizzy drinks for Keith, Mila and I. My mom had indeed invited them over for an afternoon visit. My parents and Mrs Rogers headed out to a fancy restaurant while the three of us remained behind to "Chill and have fun".
I frowned as I heard music starting to play. I grinned. It was probably my sister's idea.
I laughed as the beat and song started playing. It was one of her favourite songs to dance to.
I walked to the sitting room and froze, taking the sight in. Keith was dancing with Mila, copying every move she whipped out. Some of them were plain and utterly hilarious.
"Come on Agnus!" Keith invited me. "You can't leave me alone with this."
I laughed and put the glasses down. I probably would never live this down, but I jumped in. I did the chicken moves, and Mila giggled so hard. Keith copyied me, then frowned.
"Woah, girl, you're not supposed to make them look so cool," Keith laughed.
"I can do whatever I want with the chicken dance ok?" I laughed. I spun and pulled out some other dance moves. "Come on Candy boy, I doubt you can beat this!"
Keith stretched his neck and cracked his knuckles. "Challenge accepted." He started to moon-walk around the room, and Mila whooped.
Soon he just jumped back into copying Mila and I was laughing more than I was dancing. But as the song finished, we were all out of breath, and collapsed onto the couch.
"Where did you learn to dance so well?" Keith asked me and I shrugged.
"I mostly taught myself," I said. I looked at Keith. "You don't do so bad yourself."
"Compared to Evan..."
"Compared to what I thought you could do...was so much better. I thought you were stiff-stick...you're more of a slinky snake,"
Keith laughed. "I guess these limbs are made of mush."
"I know, considering the circumstances, this might not be the right time, but I have a Masquerade Ball coming up in a week...I was really hoping to invite you."
Keith raised his brow. "Is the monkey dance gonna be there?"
"I can always put a request in..."
"Then count me in," Keith spoke. "Look, I know these past few weeks have not going to be ideal, but like you said...the world must go on."
"You really miss her?"
"Not a day goes by without me thinking about it," Keith responded somberely. "But I would love to go."
"You have a mask?"
"I'm sure I can ask Lisa to make one for me, she's got an artist's touch, and hopefully, she will make it...."
"Masculine like?" I asked and Keith nodded.
"Yeah, that," Keith said.
"Can we order some Pizza?" Mila asked, and I nodded.
"Sure," I responded. I was internally so thrilled that Keith had indeed said yes. No hesitation or looks of uncertainty. And I really hoped that this Masquerade would live up to it's hype. I'm sure, as I glanced at Keith, who was now currently having a staring contest with my sister, it would be a night to remember.
