The morning light woke Wei Wuxian up. The rays of the Sun passed through the window of the Jingshi and straight to his face. He then began to open his eyes and inspect his surrounding. The room is not familiar to him, and he panicked for a moment before he remembered what happened.
Mo Xuanyu's sacrificial array, Mo Village, the hand, sound of the guqin, Dafan Mountain, the statue of the Goddess. His head hurt trying to remember the events that happened from his rebirth. He then remember Jin Ling, Jiang Cheng, and.....
Lan Zhan!
He continue to lay down while clutching his head. His head was overwhelmed from the events , and it triggered something in his memories. Events from the past appeared in his mind and he fight back his want to shout for the pain to go away.
He stayed still for a few more minutes, and when he was okay, he went out from the Jingshi. He flinched from the glare of the sun, and based on it's position in the sky, Wei Wuxian assumed that it's late already.
Walking through the familiar path inside Cloud Recesses made Wei Wuxian smile. He can't help but reminiscence the past. The time when he and Jiang Cheng were still okay, being the best brothers there is. The time when everything was still okay, when he was still a free youth. The time when his Shijie, his precious and sweet Shijie, was still alive. Remembering her make his heart hurt. If only it wasn't for him, she would still be alive.
Wei Wuxian didn't know how long he is walking when he found himself in a familiar pathwalk. He smiled when he found the familiar Cold Spring. Though he should've stopped when he spotted someone taking a dip in there. But it's like there's a magnet pulling him so he continued walking. He then smiled once more when he saw the familiar broad back. Wei Wuxian doesn't understand why the body of this person is so familiar to him, like it is imprinted in his mind. Just from the back, he already know who it is.
But then, he stopped on his track when he saw what's on this person's back. He closed his eyes and shook his head, just to see if he is hallucinating or not. But when he opened them again, they's still there. He's not dreaming nor hallucinating! It is real! The scars are clearer as he walks closer.
He can't be wrong. He can't be mistaken. He knows those scars too well, though he might not have one. Those scars are from discipline whips! The scars left by the whips won't be erased as it is set as a reminder for the person bearing it. A reminder to not forget his mistake. A reminder to not to do it again. Jiang Cheng was whipped by it once before so he knows that the scar won't heal.
But this person have at least three dozens of scars. Meaning he was whipped for about three dozen times. One whip might have been enough, but for this many is too much. Just what unforgivable crime did he do to be punished like this?!
He didn't know he was walking straight to the water until he felt the cold water beneath him. The sound made the other person turned to him. And if it wasn't enough for him to be shocked about the scars earlier, there in his chest, was a familiar brand seared in it. Maybe the shocked was unbearable that a sound escaped from his lips.
"You're awake." Announced the other person and was about to go to him when he was stopped.
"Stay where you are." Wei Wuxian ordered and it worked as the other stayed on his place.
Wei Wuxian's eyes are between him and the brand on his chest as he walks towards him. The coldness of the water didn't bother him despite it almost freezing. He doesn't care about his robes getting wet either. After a few steps, he's now in front of him.
"Your scars..." he starts and noticed the other tensed at that. "Those are from discipline whips."
The other didn't meet his eyes and instead looked down. Like he is ashame from his scars being discovered.
