five hellish years later:

Shauna's POV

"Shauna, are you ready." Zeke calls.

Looking over a big river, the soft gentle breeze, next to me is a grey building.

"What happens after?" I whisper only to him.

I'm so scared of what happens inside, but I'm even more scared to see what will happen when I step into the science lab and then step out.

"We're going to find out." He laces his hand with mine.

I breathe in the air and nod.

I follow him through the door.

Four and Christina sit in chairs I sit next to Zeke and Four.

I suck in a huge breath and people walk in, wearing blue jumpsuits.

"We understand what had happened is inexplicable, a horrible hell, but this technology will make us better. You are survivors and you will be rewarded. Three million dollars shall be received at your new homes a few miles from here. You have our permission to move as long as you contact us first. You guys can go through anything, and we thank you."

She starts talking about the process, "what is happening right now is a antiserum is being sprayed from a giant bowl, bigger than the city itself, it is happening in many countries and cities that you have not explored."

And for good news, "that mean that all the disease recruits will be turned back into human beings. That means as long as they were not shot by survivors, will be turned back. Thank you for your time."

Every zombie I've ever killed, they all had families. I imagine looking for my mom and dad once I realize what happened, and they'll be shot, dead, gone.

And then I think about:
Will, I wish Tris hadn't shot him.

I grab Zeke's hand.

We walk back to our living quarters in silence. My hand sweating against his.

There are so many bodies around us.

Some screaming, some crying. They all look sick.

I don't hear them, all there is, all there ever was, a faint ringing in my ears. Hearing the first gunshot I ever shot.

I will never be able to forget my actions when I walk into this new world.

We get to where we're supposed to go.

I see a limp body standing a few meters away from us.

Her brown hair is tangled and frizzy.

She hasn't moved because her legs look to be broken.

She starts to scream who she is.

"I WAS A SURVIVOR." She coughs up blood.

"I FELL OFF A CLIFF ONTO A LEDGE AND THE RUNNERS GOT ME."

"I NEED HIM." Her voice cracks and she shudders.

But her voice is unmistakeable no matter what her condition is.

"URIAH, URIAH HES A SURVIVOR HES ALIVE I KNOW HE IS."

"MARLENE MY NAMES MARLENE." my heart leaps out of my chest and onto the gravel.

Four walks up to her and picks her up. She never even noticed us.

"NO STOP IT GET AWAY NO NO," she screams too loudly clawing at Four, hitting him, squirming.

"Marlene, OW SON OF A BITCH." He lets go of her.

"HOW DO YOU KNOW MY NAME." She screams so loud I hear pounding in my ears.

"Marlene calm down, its Shauna," tears in my eyes I swallow and speak, "Uriah's gone."

That was the worst news I've ever given.

She stared back at me, finally silent, and sits on the hard ground.
