Tris's POV

"Come on you guys, lets go."

We grab the little stuff we have, water, my journal, and a few maybe poisoned loose berries.

We enter the woods and I feel muscle building up. I have only muscle left, the zombie apocalypse has given that to me. Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

We hear a huge crack.

Zeke shushes us and stands still.

"Zeke it was probably just a rabbit." Tobias says.

It happens again and a human shaped figure turns and runs into the woods.

"WE COME HERE IN PEACE, DUDES."

No answer.

"ITS OKAY WE WONT HURT YOU."

No answer.

"Fine be that way, lets go you guys."

As we take our first step a million gunshots fill the air.

"DOWN NOW." It doesn't matter who said it.

I press my hands to my ears and smack to the ground immediately.

A few seconds go by and they stop.

A deep moan comes from behind me and I sit up at look behind me.

Zeke runs into the woods, "I don't see anyone, they're all gone," he turns to use, "we had no ch-" gasp.

Lynn holds they bullet wound that's dripping red blood from her shirt.

I freeze, death is common in this place.

Tobias shrinks down staring at everyone, searching for the person to grab her last words out of her.

Christina stands there pressing her hands to her ears. Shauna sits there staring at her sister in disbelief. Zeke hasn't moved.

Uriah has tears clouding his vision.

Everything has paused, the air has stopped.

We sit waiting for something.

She collapses onto the ground and she moans, Uriah runs up to her lifting her head up.

"You'll be okay, you're going to be okay."

She shakes her head slowly and presses her finger to his lips.

"Don't be so stupid Uri, just please listen, listen." the last word is a groan.

He nods a little, "I'm listening," he whispers to her.

"I loved her too."

"What?"

"I loved her."

"Who? Who did you love?"

"Marlene."

"Yeah, yeah everybody loved Marlene."

"That's not what I mean Uri, I loved her like our parents loved each other."

I deep pause as she closes her eyes.

"I loved her like you loved her."

She opens her eyes and I can tell that it'll be that last time she ever opens them.

He sobs, "it's okay Lynn, it's okay, everything is going to be fine, your going to be fine."

He clasps both his hands over her small limp one.

The air has been sucked out of me.

I sit there, unable to move, unable to talk, unable to breathe.

He sobs and drops her dead weight hand.

He lays his head on her chest and looks up at her face runs his fingers through her almost completely shaved head.

He grabs a small dandelion next to her and tucks it behind her ear.

"Be brave Lynn, I know you will."

Uriah stays there for a long time.

And we sit there staring at him, because all the life have been sucked out of us too.

This is the only thing we can do, sit and hope it's a dream, but it's not, this nightmare is real as anything.

Uriah stares at her, a deep dread in his eyes.

Zeke takes a huge sigh, on what feels like years later.

"Let's go,"

***

The house is big, two stories three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

"Food?" Christina asks.

Zeke opens the covert to reveal nothing, "zip."

"That's okay, we'll figure it out."

No one knows what time it is, what time we left, what time Lynn's death happened, how long it took.

But it's dark outside, at least now and the last few hours has been the hardest yet.

Uriah walks upstairs and Christina follows soon after.

Uriah's POV

I have until I get into my bedroom, to hold in my tears.

Don't cry.

Ten steps.

Don't cry.

Eight steps.

Don't cry.

Three steps.

Don't cry.

I force a sprint I didn't know was in me and run into my room.

I sit on the bed and press my hands over my eyes.

The tears come forcefully.

I press them back, but it's no use, they come like Asian bolts.

I hear pounding in my ears and look up to see a blurry figure.

She walks up to me and wipes away my tears.

"I loved her so much."

She hugs me.

"It's not fair."

I feel so weak.

"They're gone."

They're in a better place.

"I miss them."

But you can't get them back.

I fall asleep clutching Christina, crying my eyes out, exhaustion filling me.

----

No way on earth I ship Christina/Uriah but seriously Uriah needs some comforting so.
